  1. Frosty here seams can't be opened up you got § circle if this is greek f symbol you got like 4 inches closed circle and that's all

So I would be better making hole larger or building this like branch type stove it would suck air better

Maybe two separate pipes suck better then one but Ian not sure I will look up to it maybe I can build something from sheet metal it can be squerish.

What about spiral pipes are they toxic because they have Zink in it or some sort of thing .

  2. Billy why I can't make two separated pipes that draw away smoke why it must be joined together.

Well if I will ripcut stove pipe I can in advance say  I will get it ruined and will have two halves ruined pipes and U bend sheet metal.

Can you tell me guys which diameter is supposed to be good for forge chimney ?

Mine is 4 inch around 10 cm how much I need for it to draw good.

And I tend to avoid it being tall above roof I only expel smoke trough elbow where I can control if some fire catch up or something happen.

I also need to cut ball more or dig it in dirt because this ( shape make it not to lay flat and hole goes up too much.

  3. You are welcome frosty I allways read your name as foresty like forest not like frost frozen .

Well Iam back In shape but I had issue with back from January 14 th and didn't light forge and strike anvulo more then two months .

Now Ian better but doctors wrote :Avoid working hard phisical work in bad posture

Of course I took chance and when I came to work said them I can't lift more then 10 kilos , and I need to be spared for  couple of time.

I gave that paper to  office of guy that is supposed to be responsible for safety on work.

I did that so I can legally a bit be protected.

Funny thing is I got backpain from working in factory with food lifting small weights like 5 kilos and wrapping pallet with stretching foil.

Sudden movement and it all was done after 10 seconds couple of days worked and got finished ,hardly stand on feet and went to doctor.

  4. Ok make it but let me know how it look after all there are some my copyrights on it :P

Here is how it all went today

Will have to see more details make arch and will see will I add another one stove pipe Ian not sure for now.

If opening is too big I can shut it with some drilling and some riveting

Your skool taller a bit k will have to Grint it to se how it will go

So yeah " Your look taller a bit I will have to get to it to see how it will go.

  6. Yeah frosty I know Ian just using measure I think I will cut it smaller diameter and bend it up , some small cuts that will go in circle then bend it with pliers so chimney pipe fit on it.

I think this is good place to start , it's tall enaugh, I will remove old hood and use this sucker as hood.

And  will probably shut those two pipes too with some welding or just out clay over it or plaster or cement .

  7. I saw on YouTube that it's best hood possible for side drqft forge, so I asked neighbour for old boyler and Ian planing to cut it to make super sucker

Anny suggestions or tips are more then welcome

As example Ian using this video

  8. My experience is it need to be fine after one year but, you can't do punching holes where you hold piece with your legs and you drift hole.

There are some limitations I think while working,  I usually don't force anything bigger than 1" or 1/2 its small forge for some tools making and some tools drawing out as it's tradition here to draw out some old axes that are grinded too much time.

Neighbour asked me to do him that, I refused offer , he want it done with axe handle on it.

I would do it for free because he is our neighbour and we do favor for favor

But I will be - fuel and electricity which is not Bigg deal but health is.

  9. I will see what will happen, it's not issue about spine it self I think there is fear and mental aspect of it too.

Its small herniation maybe 2 mm ,but one should be cautious.

As I said I had disc herniation 6 years ago and after one year I worked pretty well even I lifted bellows couple of time and moved them around building.

Now I think movement need to be less fast and force need to be closer to anvil and više so I don't have to reach too far from my expirence weight is not all of that problem for pine and don't trigger pain and herniation in discs as sudden move.

  10. Thanks all for support , I had disc herniation before in 2017 on November,

And last year I adjusted anvil to be lower because I had issue with shoulder when I pound with hammer.

If anvil is set too heigh up, hammer blows affect shoulder then ,I would guess maybe 6 months until forging is save, eveb one need to consider that smithing is not like any kind of trade, there is hot piece of metal in play here, you can get pain from back, and get hot piece of metal in body bz just reflex I'd backpain.

My pain was little bit pinched nerve that went all to the foot, thing is had two times disc herniation even I didn't noticed it until I felt pain in foot.

  11. Hi everyone I hope you have good day, as winter went here I am not blacksmithing for a while, and month ago I had accident on work, well I did wrong move and got pain in spine, to be more precise I have herniated disc which pinch nerve now , I  am recovering but I want to ask question.

When someone can return to blacksmithing and working on anvil, should I be more careful in future while forging,  does anvil height matter, will lifting and pounding with hammer affect discs in spine.

I asked this because I am sure some of you have that or similar  experience.

Well problem is that sheet metal that have thread in it is in bad shape.
Material is in bad shape or screw it is slip and it cant push pulley to side and tighten belt better.

    E13048.jpg

125 is making problem for me.

  13. I bought Bench Grinder yesterday and it was  good  and everything was find, but when i wanted to change belt to it, screw slip , or thread in thin sheet metal is ruined. And now it cant align itself right away, belt tend to go out of align.

I will  go to market bring account for it and ask them to return me money or change for other machine.

And on top of that cap that is under grinder, where screws go is thin plastic. You remove plastic and you have access to wiring.

What tips do you have when buying those tools, i tought belt sander will give finer sharpnes to tools like chisels planes etc.
