So I have built a 5 gallon bucket forge using Larry zoellers design and I emailed and called him about ordering a burner flare a Ward tee pipe a choke plate and a connection kit but he hasn't responded. Does anyone know any other sources to get these from?

I have always heard of people having special rules for anvils like "no cast iron" or "the stand needs to be wood" are there any reasons for all the special rules for having a good anvil?

I haven't gotten a response of zoeller either does anyone have any info on this?

I did some more research and with the help of my neighbor I am going to build Larry Zoeller's simple gas forge design.

I Have an anvil that I would like to identify also it is in the metal shop at my high school.

I think I really like the traditional London pattern.

Alright I have to wait till i get my pay check on the 14th and I will buy it that very day.

Thanks for your help. Is there any other forges that I could buy.

Also if I insulated it with better insulation (like some kaowool) any other suggestions?


I changed my mind i am going to buy a diamond back forge ( unless it has any problems that you guys know about) 

Does anyone have an opinion on the majestic forge 2 burner knife maker deluxe propane forge? Does anyone know of any other propane forge that is "Cheap"?

Does anyone know of any company thanks makes anvils anymore? Are they any worth buying?

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend to spend the day learning the basics of blacksmithing. I really enjoyed this class. We made several tools that we can use in the future and it also got me interested in making my own propane forge. This class was very useful and helped expand my knowledge of blacksmithing. I learn the importance of tempering and heat treating and the importance of choosing and identifying the right kind of metal. I would like to thank Shane again for helping me learn about this great trade.

Which Current (AC Dcep dcen etc) would be best for just welding steel? and which electrode (6010, 6011 etc would I use for which ever current I am using?

I am in a metals class at the local high school and out of all the machines they have arc is my favorite and what is a tombstone someone post a pic also do you use different rods with different currents? And the one at harbor freight comes with a chipping hammer a helmet and a brush

Does any one know where I could but an actual anvil and not a railroad track for 60 to 40 bucks? Also equipped with a Pritchel and hardy or Hardie (which ever way)?

What would be better to buy coke or coal?

Does brass give of toxic fumes? I am wanting to make a coat rack for my neighbour so I can. Show her what I am doing.

What part of the valley are you in?  There are a couple of other smiths in the valley.  I am in Moapa Valley out near Mesquite.
 
I can get coal out of Utah, by where I work. Last price I got was $130 a ton. Thinking about getting some myself since I drive past there every day with my truck.

I need an idea for a cheap smithy so my neighbours stop bugging me I heard about a tipi for a smithy wold that work? Where could I find a cheap one? What are some other smiths? (I want to see picture of you smithys)

What do I need ear plugs for?

Gun dog I didn't know that about the glove thing I just didn't wear it because that glove was uncomfortable for me

I'm just going to move my forge somewhere else I talked to my neighbour ( he's a good friend) and he has had problems with his neighbours snooping and I'm just going to ignore her maybe make her some stuff if no when I get good.

A gas fore would be nice and I have made the anvil quiet but she doesn't care I showed her the water bucket and I was wearing goggles a leather apron boots and some welding gloves I don't think I have ever seen her leave I don't even think she has a car.... And I am in school all day and my parents have already talked to her but I will see what they can do.

Today I was in my back yard working with my break drum forge for the first time. I was just about to take the hot metal out of the fire when my neighbor popped her head over the fence and said "do your parents know what your doing" I responded yes because they support the idea and she said you should really stop playing with fire wearers to close and I think you should stop also the hammering is quite obnoxious so I told her "what do of want me to do" and she said just please stop with the fire. So I took every thing down and put it in my garage so I am done with black smithing until they move or die. :(

I have taken out the canning lid and the chrome thing and I have replaced them with a mesh screen (metal mesh screen) and a stainless steel drain cover with some stainless steel bolts for air control.
