  1. I made a few tools for it last night out of air chisel bits, made a fixture plate for it, and bolted it to the wall. I messed around with it and textured some 1/4" thick mild steel with it cold and no heat, which was the first time I ever used one. It is easier than I thought, and very precise. I like how the depth of the bit's penetration can be controlled with the check nut. One great thing about it is that I can use it a 2am with out my neighbors knowing.

    :)

  2. Yesterday or Friday the 8th a fly press showed up at HGR, and on Saturday morning I picked it up. So now I will not be making a press I will just be making dies instead. I made the stand today with steel I had, and it is solid, stable, and level. Thanks for the help guys here are some pix...

  3. Will a ball screw work for a fly press or will it blow apart? I found a few that are the size I am looking for I just am unsure if they will last.

Also am I shooting for 2" per revolution for a screw? The ball screw I found traveled about 1.250" per revolution.

    Thank you for your help...

  4. You keep mentioning "too far away" but do not list your LOCATION do you not think that suggestions might be better if we knew where you were and how far you could travel?

I have a 2 lead large (H-frame) screwpress and while I would prefer an extra lead on it; I have enjoyed using it for forging---I've been smooshing top tooling down to fit in my 1.5" hardies with it--nice smooth parallel sides. Also making square tenons with it and a stop block. (and the odd coining job, straitening tent stakes, etc)

Bought it for $50 + buyer's reaming, tax and $35 to have it loaded on my pickup. Auction was in the old factory toolroom back behind the building I worked in. Arbor presses were selling much higher for piddly little things!

Sorry I live in Parma Ohio North Eastern Ohio. I would be willing to drive 6 hours for a deal.

This one is a few hours away, and the price is to high for me. Does the screw look to slow? Id contact him and ask if I could draw his screw if I thought it was a good thread. Thank you for any info.

  6. Thank you for the info guys.I do like the old school look of this punch press, and the price, but I don't want the noise or to be limited with its use. I really want a small-medium fly press because it is quit and versatile. But I have not found one in my under $500 price range locally. I am hoping to walk threw HGR one day soon and find one for $25 because they don't know what it is. Well see I am also considering making one but the screw seems like a hard thing to find. If I had a blue print for a good screw or new of some one local that had a good screw press that would let me make a blue print Id be set. The press in this thread is the size I would be happy with: Let me know if any of you have any Ideas. Thank again...

  7. I live on the east side of Parma off State south of Snow. A long way from Hawaii (Oahu), I would trade spots in a second, interested?

As far as valves go, I just bought 2 of basicly every kind made that is non- electric. I want to make sure I have what I need when I start. I hope to get the info I need. But if not I'll figure it out.

    I will check out forgemagic.com.

    I will also post picks.

My design is basicly a ka75.com, but beefed up quiet a bit. It will basicly be the same but centerd in the middle of a four poste linear slide, and both cylinders will drive up and down.

I should have the steel by the end of the week. They are wating actualy for the S-7, so I will pick it up when they have the whole order.

To start I am only making one die set, just flat. I think I will be able to knock out the fab in 6-16 hours, well we'll see. The valving will probably end up being the part that takes the most time.

I can't wait, I love building new things.

    :)

  8. Hi I am new here and I have a question or 2. I am making a air hammer with 2dual acting cylinders. I want both cylinders to be extended when I have no presure on the valve'(s), when I aply pressure to the valve'(s) I want them to both close. Is there a single valve that can get this done or do I need 2 valves, that are 2 position 4 way directional? Will 2 of this e-may item # 190156572291 work? If you know what I mean, and know what I need please post, or pm me.

Also the material for the dies I chose S-7, what hardness should i shoot for?

I should have the steel by the end of the week, and would like to get that valve asap so I can get this wraped up.

Thank you all for your help,

    Michael...
