  1. i would need some help about material for hot chisels.What i have yet, i made of an old drill,hss material.Although the heat treating is a challenge(im not experienced in smithing),it succeeded so far,that the piece didnt break,and able to use.What material is ok,(junkyard,used stuff),and how to treat it?Possibly not the most difficoult way:rolleyes:.Thanks for help in advance

  2. that it is mpossible to get good coal,i use coke also(sometimes charcoal.but it costs too much).To ignite it i put paper,piece of charcoal igniter (kind of compressed oily sawdust), 2 handful of charcoal on top,and lightly cover with coke. start with strong blast1and in 15 min. the fire is ok.

Sorry,dont speak english that much,im not sure i know the difference.You may right,the fact is,it a greasy stuff when hot,and becomes solid like glassif it cools,really near the air intake.how to clean up the thing?They are small pieces when hot.Next time i try get them out better.thanks for answer anyway!

  4. hello!im not reaaly experienced in blacksmithing( mean i just started trying about)1and have a problem about cinder,it sticks to the firepot after a while. As it cools,it is like glass.iI use coke,it might not be the best quality,but the only kind to get yet.If anybody could give an advice what to do to avoid that?(the pot is a self made one,covered vith fire clay).Thanks in advance for help

  5. Am glad to find the site, helps much!Actually i just started trying about blacksmithing.Though it is useful to repair tools,etc around the house, but its rather a hobby yet.I try getting started,made few tools, thongs1a hammer already,so i just keep trying.the site helps quite much! Thanks!
