Thank you for all the nice comments. I did some more wire brushing to it today and found a couple other marks stamped into it. Not sure if they have any signifigance, but I figured I would post them here just in case. On the side where the other information is stamped into the side down at the very bottom edge, right in the center, ia a capital letter "E" On the side under the horn at the very bottom edge, in both the left and right corners, are the number "8". Let me know if this sheds any light or adds to the story. As always, Thank you.

Some other basic information to help with any identification or correction to what I posted earlier. It is; 26 3/4" end to end. The face is 15 1/4" x 4 3/8" It looks like a 1" hardy hole and a 5/8" pritchel It stands 10 1/4" tall.

Hi I am new to the sight and blacksmithing in general. This is my second post. My first was over in the "introduce yourself" forum. So after taking an introductory blacksmithing course with our local blacksmithing group, I decided that it was time to start sourcing tools and supplies to set up my little shop. I came across an anvil on the local Craigslist and decided to go check it out. The owner ran a small collision shop out of his home and after 60 years of fixing other peoples stuff he is finally hanging it up. He is 91 by the way. After making contact with the phone number in the ad I drove the 8.8 short miles to a gentleman's home and looked at an anvil. All I knew to look for was something that wasn't too beat up, had clean edges and a smooth face. OK, they were asking $250.00. I was told $2.00 a pound was fair and it felt like about a hundred pounds, so I offered $200.00 and they accepted. Got it home and threw a wire brush on my Makita grinder and cleaned up some of the rust and layers of spray paint on it and these are the markings that I found. If my lurking on other anvil posts are correct. It is a 155# Peter Wright Anvil. Based on the 1 1 15 marked on it, but someone with more knowledge please correct me where I am inaccurate. Here are some pictures. Let me know how I did. I am just hoping that I paid a fair price for a decent beginner's anvil. Thank you for your time in advance. Hello everyone, My name is Jerry and I live in Alden, New York which is a suburb east of Buffalo, New York. Before you ask, no, it's not snowing.....yet. I am new to hobby blacksmithing. It has always interested me and thanks to a friend who posted some information on Facebook, I am now a proud member of the NYSDBA, Niagara region. I recently took their introductory Blacksmithing course during the month of October and I am now sourcing tools and supplies so I can bang on some iron in my little home shop. Wanted to stop here first and say hello, and I am headed to the anvil section to post some pictures and information on my first new to me anvil. Regards Jerry
