  1. If this was something I had developed or discovered on my own, I would happily share, but a knife maker up in Washington (Michael Rader) shared this technique with me, and since he's the one who figured it out, I feel like it wouldn't be right to post it on a public board without checking with him first. (Which I will do.) Very sorry to withhold, but I don't think I should out his trade secrets without first confirming that he doesn't mind.

Thanks for the share. Maybe you could invite Mr. Rader to join us and share his technique. Just a thought

  2. The blades look good indeed! The handles are a bit clunky looking with the lovely curves on the blades putting more curves, "organic" looking handles would be super---and you're using really nice material for the handles too!

(I might try to make that finger curve on the blade able to open bottles for one for myself...but that's a dangerous thing mixing bottles and blades!)

Thanks Thomas not sure what you have in mind. I agree the handles kicked my rear. So if you have time feel free to expand on the comment I could sure use the help.
  3. Well its a bad picture. They have a mirror finish and I did not notice the pictures were that poor until after I had already gave them away for Christmas gifts. I will see if I can get my hands on one of them and get a better picture.

  4. Hello all. Its has been a while since I have been in and I thought I would show my first attempts a knife making. I forged these three knives from O-1 steel. Handles are from stabilized maple. Thoughts on how to improve is always welcome.

  5. I use a gut hook knife. I have been hunting for the past 30+ years. I find a hook very handy for hogs and deer. Yea a good sharp knife and a bit of caution any blade will get the job done. However a gut hook does speed things up.

  6. Well I use a variation of the last post. A 5 gallon bucket with a piece of 2 inch tubing from the ground then bent over into the bucket sticking down a couple of inches. In the bottom of the bucket is poisoned corn. The rat or mouse is caught and killed and not allowed to get out and poison other predators in the area.

  7. For you folks that have moved to Microsoft Vista. If you are using Zone Alarm Security Suite 7.1, Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, and BitDefender 10. It also blocks the 2008 version of the Jiangmin antivirus products. Then do not install Service Pack 1. This service pack will disable these programs the link below will provide you with more information. Other software is being affected as well a complete list is not available at this time.
