  1. Wow! 1hr for answer. Man you folks are good. Love the collective knowledge on here. Thanks so much for the info. After hearing from you all, I can sort of make out the Trenton logo... But I wouldn't without your help. Wire brush cleaned it up pretty well, but still no better logo. Now I am off to find out what I can about Trenton's. Looks like made in Ohio, like so many others. Seems to ring great, and has good bounce, so this should work well for intended purpose. Any idea's on the date? Will have to see if I can find a AA book somewhere and learn about Trenton. Again, thanks for the help. Rusted in ohio
  2. Greetings all, I have been following along when I can, and really enjoy all the information on this site. Picked up a pretty nice 180 lb anvil at auction yesterday, and was hoping to get some information on who the manufacture was. I don't recognize the markings, but I am sure some of you with more experience will. Best I can make of the mark is possibly: ???ION on the side of the anvil There is a 4?3 mark on the left foot, and 133269 on the left foot. (best I can make out) Would this be the serial number? I have tried searching for info, but not a lot of help since figure out the first part of the name. I thought at first that it had the look of a Hey-Budden, but that isn't consistent with lettering so IDK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Rusted in OH.
  3. Thanks Guys, Appreciate the info. Will be hanging around here picking up more good info from you fine folks. Have seen some amazing things in the short time I have been here. And Mr. K, exellant axe start. Amazed it was made on a 25lber. Thanks for posting and email. Rusted
  4. Evening all, New member here who just found this great site while poking around lookinf for information on a small anvil I picked up at a flea market. Thought I would join up, introduce myself and ask a few questions if you don't mind. My name is John, I live in SW Ohio. I'm retired, do a little woodworking, and try to keep up with the continual chores on a small farm. I have been interested in old ARN for a while and have "rescued" much more of it than I care to think about. LOL. I have great admiration for the iron work you folks do. You all have a talent I can only read about. I will enjoy learning more as I go along. If I may, I have a question about my small flea market find. I have been told the anvil is a Hay Budden per the markings on the body. After much looking at other HB's I believe this to be true. The Anvil is 17" long, 8½" tall, with a 3" face. Total weight per the bath scale's is 60#. Markings on the anvil are the Hay Budden markings, the number 58 (I'm guessing that this is the weight) and what I think are the serial number "19927" and the number 3 on the foot. Has a stamp of "C A J" on the heal. Not sure what these are? The anvil is pretty much in an unused condition, and has very little rust at all. At this size , I doubt that it has ever been used for much other than general light duty pounding. And not much of that. Although I can find a lot of info on the Hay Budden's , I have been unable to find anything on one this small. I am hoping to find someone here who has one similar to compare and can fill me in on birth dates, rareness, other HB facts and history. If you would like more pix, or any specific angle let me know. I also have a couple other anvil's and a few vises of different sorts that I will be trying to find out more info on as I learn more. Thanks in advance from Rusted in Ohio
