  1. Thanks! My micarta is cotton and burlap set in polyester resin. Sanded out to 500 grit and polished.
  2. Not forged, stock removal.....farriers rasp, burlap micarta and kydex sheath. These are two different knives, both for Kiowa helo pilots...
  3. Here are a few things that I have whet my teeth on....
  4. When we go up in Dec for about ten days.....I am looking HARD for an anvil.......in Florida, they are hard to find....wish me luck! I don't want to spend five hundred clams on one......
  5. Looks like 91 miles from the town our house is in.......and tis across the tail of the dragon.....I am gonna try ......and I really wanna go, but since we are going up on Dec.....it may be a stretch.....but now I know that someone is close to the second home!
  6. How close to Andrews NC are you? I have a home north of there near Santetlah......I may be up there then!
  7. Weird...two posts......oh well....thanks for the help guys. I have read that it is possible that springs like these could be 5160 or a similar steel, decent for blades.....any truth to this? I am sure it should be fine for cheese knives, openers, cork screws and misc. Stuff.....right?
  8. Very cool! Thanks.....that's roughly what I figured, just by looking at it. I see corkscrews, bottle openers, small knives and stuff in these springs!

  10. A local commercial garage door guy has given me two sets of springs. I have a smaller set, that rod is about 1/4 inch and the second set is pretty close to 3/8 inch........I probably have thirty feet of each if I uncoiled it. My question is, when forging this 3/8 rod out, is there enough material to pound out small knives? I guess I am asking, approximately how wide can I expect for this to come out, if I get it down to, say, 1/8 inch?
