They turned out great. It was nice to meet you!

Ella Mae Morse, one of my fave singers, renders The Blacksmith Blues about a Kentucky horseshoer. I was in my teens when she came out with it in 1952. Her many ohter songs I liked, but especially Cow Cow Boogie and Mister Five by Five. She thrived in the big band era (my era)!

I love those things and I want to try and make one.

Maybe an etsy store would work?

Thomas,
Is the "prune people" book, the one that was released to go with the Viking museum show tour in or around 1981? That is an excellent reference book for the tour. I no longer have my copy from the Minneapolis museum stop. Could you tell me the author?
Brian Pierson
Yeah, what is that book? I've seen if referenced a bunch -
Sorry for not being specific, Im just looking for a broad reference library.
All this is great -
So would "Knives and Scabbards, Museum of London" (over 300 medieval knives from excavations in London all drawn to scale with information on age, metallurgy, construction details + shears + medieval leather sheathes) would be appropriate----though centuries more modern than "ancient"?
sounds great -
Adam,
Since you're around the area of a few other smiths on this site I would suggest looking up a brian brazeal style striking anvil. These seem to be fairly cheap to build and would probably suit you better then a store bought anvil like a harbor freight, or other cast iron ASO. Also, you might want to get in touch with the blacksmith association down in MS and they'll probably be able to help you through getting started a lot faster.
Jeff
Ive saw that Anvil Brian had made, it is pretty neat. I went to my first Forge Council meeting last week, guess I will wait until the email comes out and ask. -
I've noticed a few companies carrying them and I've been told to stay away from the ones in Harbor Freight.
What would you recommend? -
I do mean it in a broad sense. All of these suggestions are great.

I find strikers, jewelry and small items fascinating. I'd love to try some new things out.

I LOVE those flint strikers, I would love to have one next to my fireplace. I really like the viking ones
-
How do you make one? Do any companies make them for you?

Does he have a website by chance?
Through work I got to produce a segment on a local smith, Brian Brazeal
