  1. that is a nice looking pot. I knew there was some reason I was saving my money. One like that would look good with a nice set of bellows attached to it. mark
  2. Ok I went and looked at the PB0133. call me a little dense but were did you loose the 1/2 to 3/4" of metal at. on the blow tube. I like what I see. did ya use exhaust pipe. I have drill stem pipe I may use some how or other. and it is a toss up on wanting a method of removing clinkers out the bottom verus the top. And just looking at the ready made firepot as they have the qinks worked out of it and might use less fuel than if i made my own. just don't know. Hope ya'll don't mind my questions. I'm enjoying this site. I do need to rejoin BAM. the only problem most of the meetings are so darn far away.
  3. guess i read to much sometimes. some people have been saying that the firepots start to burn up after a short whole. mark
  4. Are you able to get up to welding heat without adversely affecting the fire pot metal.
  5. anybody have an opinion on this firepot from centaur forge. not sure if I should buy this or make one. I don't have access to to much heavy plate. I've used most of it up. I'm wanting to get a forge built so bad I can taste it. how heavy are these and how long would they last. They also have a heavy duty one from 3/4" stuff not sure what would be the best to get. I'm just trying to make the best decision and get or make something that will last for awhile. I got some canvas while out yesterday to make my bellows with. went to my nieces house for christmas and my wife had told them I wanted some coal they looked around but only came up with some hardwood charcoal. heck that aint bad. My brother in law said getting me some coal for christmas was just plain wrong. I just grinned at him. then neices husband works for the railroad and said he would try to get me a bunch of coal. aint the good stuff but free. mark
  6. If I build the firepot how long will it last. I've even thought about the side blast forge??? I'm wanting something simple. I also plan on building the bellows. I'm wanting to have a setup that is like the old ways. no electricty needed. I just have less stress with the simple things in live. being without electricity for week due to the ice storm makes be stop and think. Heck I really enjoyed that week. used kerosine lamps propane lights and we have a pressure tank and pump that didn't work so we went back to the hand pump that I've got mounted at the sink. also heating water on the stove. makes you slow down.
  7. I've been lurking on this forum for a while. makes me drool looking at some of your forges. iI've got a small portable one but I'm wanting to build a stationary one. the building to house it in is already up. I like the looks of the brick side draft forges but don't have enough bricks and besides that I don't like brick work. Have any of you built them with cement blocks and then gone on up with the cement blocks for the chimney. What size should the chimney be. 12".. other than the forge pot can I make the table out of chimney brick or maybe even pour from cement?? I'm still quite amateur at this even though I've played around at blacksmithing off and on for 20 some years. any help would be much appreciated. thanks mark
