  1. Thx a lot guyz . .This is so much fun ..sure as xxxx worth the inhaled smoke and the scandal all the flying sparks caused with my parents ( i used charcoal) .. I blew my nose after i was done and the tissue was black. Dunno why but that gave me a feeling of pride .:P..

and thx for the chisel advice Frosty . .I did notice that a straight leveled edge is a pain 2 work with ..

  2. THX guys ..this means a lot 2 me:D oh and about the ring part . .. I hit it 2 hard and one of the ends split . .so I improvised. ..and twisted everything together. . .
Plus.. I only know hot to flatten stuff and dent/cut em on a makeshift hardy( upside down cold chisel).

  3. I've used a granite boulder and a strong looking quartz river rock to flatten a steel rod I found while barbecueing once. ..was getting bored so I fanned the coals leftover from the cooking and got the rod red hot and beat it senseless with a rock ..left it 2 cool . .and ground it on another rock ..and made a very primitive knife blade ...2 bad i couldnt dettach it so i left it there. ..

  4. just learn how everything works ( forge, blower etc) as in the principles and make your own original design based on what material you have or can acquire. ..you could then let us look at it and make suggestions. ...then one you have something that can be used as an anvil.. .and a hammer. .learn 2 make tongs. .chisels. .hardies. .pokers rakes hooks. ..stuff like that ... If you want a real anvil. ..just go at fairs and give people homework . as in give em a beer and ure card and tell em 2 ask around . .if they come up with anything say ull give em a cut of the profit. i came up with my 2 anvils like that . and have leads for 2-3 more.( but no money)

  5. I dunno about you guys but Nimba anvils always annoyed me because of the way they are named .. .as in the TITAN is the smallest .. .we all know what titan means ..also .. the Centurion doesn't even measure or weigh 100 of anything ..
As for the Gladiator . .it should switch names with the Titan . Sorry for the pointless rant ..

  6. Anyways .. .Altho I'm not a Blacksmith ..and can barely be called an amateur compared 2 most of u ppl. ...I started about 2 yrs back ..when I decided I could probly forge knives with just hot coals left over from a bonfire and a simple hammer and a RR track section.
I started collecting tools and stuff and finally managed to build a good enough brick and earth forge and found a 150 kg anvil hiding in a nearby mountain village.
Never could find the time 2 forge a lot tho ..been busy with getting into college and such . .and now I'm leavin for London ..so maybe during summer breaks. .

  7. It started for me from reading the lord of the rings and wondering how they welded in midevil times... then the metalshop teacher let me play in the propane forge( I made knives and swords in highschool!) but I reall got the bug when i went to a mountian man rondesvous and saw a blacksmith working.... watched him for hours! then went home and started working... 25+ years later and ime still going strong...

This is funny!. .To read LotR and only get intrigued by welding :P. .Too bad there are classes for dragonriding and magic and arcane cures and necromancy ..I'd sure sing up!
  8. I recently came across some Romanian Army chemical kits that are used by soldiers to wash and neutralize toxic stuff from th enemy .. .in case of a chemical attack.

The kit consists of 2 small vials, 3 small bottles filled with a sweet smelling pink liquid and several cotton balls.

Can anyone please tell me maybe what those chemicals are and if they are toxic to humans or animals?

and how to dispose of them safely.

  9. Hey guys. I recently got this very old copper pot. .that is supposed to be a couple of hundreds of years old. ..

It's in relatively good shape but it has 2 holes in it like someone punched through with a knife.

How could I make it watertight again and still maintain the antique aura that it currently has?

  10. I think you should get a few friends . .or just free up some time . .take it apart. . sand blast it, repaint it . .oil everything up ..and THEN start it up. .You risk damaging it further if you just squirt grease on some rusted parts and plug it in.

Plus. .Having it polished and painted will make you feel a lot better about it. .and will make us more jealous.

  11. I use graphite to polish my silver jewelry . .
Have some medallions that I scribble on with drawing pencils. .and then rub with a dry cloth for a while. .
it ends up looking nice. . .as in .the deep parts are darker and the proeminent parts are shinny ..thus giving the illusion of depth ..
