topic is a little dated but citric acid is available in the canning section of most grocery stores.

I've been reading that some guys use boric acid as a welding flux or as part of a flux mix.

I needed to edit my info, after a little research I realized I mispoke. The wood preservative I spoke of originally isn't the same. I'm glad I caught it in time.

I started hobby blacksmithing 35 years ago at my granddads shop. Played with it on and off over the years and finaly gotten a little more serious about it. My goal is to learn forge welding on a gas forge. I've had a little success with coal, very little. Part of the challenge is finding a good supply of good coal. Tomorrow I'm going to join Michigan artist blacksmith association.
