  1. A very kind thank you for all the comments. To the two Thomas's, you are both correct, I should give as much attention to any piece irrespective of who its for or not. Good work should be done for its own sake. After that gentle repudiation from ThomasP, I slinked back into my shop that very night, ground all the welds, straightened and trued the scrolls, even rewelded a couple of joins that looked a little "iffy" and then sandblasted the whole thing and sprayed it. I then presented it to my wife as a 35 year wedding anniversary gift, with a little note that made mention of the fact that the project had been completed with input from the members of IFI, which she knows is my favourite site.

Frosty, your comments are always welcome. That little anvil (100#der), is sitting atop a 600#der which as soon as I am able to move and photograph it, I am going to ask ThomasP to try and identify it for me. It is a no namer but I'm sure he will, from its shape, be able to make a calculated guess as to its origin.

  2. I too have followed this thread since its beginning and what a delight and enligtening piece it has proven to be. How different from anything else that this wonderful site has delivered and that I have enjoyed since 2007.
Jake and Beth, your artistic proclivities are so apparent and it is this that sets the artist so firmly apart from the rest of people. The true artist is indeed that person which gives credence to the saying that: .....the labourer works with his hands, the artisan works with the hands and the mind and the artist works with the hands, the mind and the heart.

To all those who have contributed to this thread I thank you for adding a touch of happy colour to my daily dose of IFI. Beth, if you read this I have tried sending you a private mail without success. My wife I are going to be near Gloucestershire in October.........I would deem a cuppa with you very special. (I will bring my own kettle)

    Regards, to all,

  3. I agree with the sentiments expressed about safety first. The 12 inch, 18 foot galvanised pipe on my super sucker DOES NOT get hot enough to affect the surface and cause the vapours that we all fear and even if it did the draught UP the stack is so strong that the only direction of toxins is up and out. The box into which the fire exhausts is NOT galvanised and should not be as this would definately get too hot. Err rather on the side of caution. On my forge, the stack is outside the walls of the building.

    My 2c worth.

  4. Ted,
I too have a close relationship with the animals in my life, and your moving and sensitively written account brought a film of moisture to my eye.

If one looks at the nature of the mails in response to Ironstein's postings, its reveals an outpouring of sincere emotion on the part of the people who are members of this site. It is uplifting and encouraging to witness the human spirit at a time of sadness...even if it is the death "of only a dog"

I salute the people who have replied to this post and Ironstein I understand the loss of your beloved dog.
