I don't know what Mike is doing posting that ugly thing on Ebay. That is not his usual caliber. I have visited his warehouse of blacksmithing tools and equipment.

Pretty Cool, Mark!
I especially like your idea of using the hardy hole like a bolt header.
I don't think I would have ever thought of that one on my own.
Forums are great.
Thank you! -
Nice job on your blog, Dave. Lots of great close up pictures. Keep up the good work.

Click here to read the first ODBSA Newsletter of the new year.
Due to the weather conditions, we had no event in January .
So Bobby asked a few members to contribute articles to replace the Green Coal Report that usually recaps the meeting.
Well he got five articles. Enthusiam is high. This is going to be a great year! -
CG,
What was on the site prior to the Lincoln's purchasing it?
It could be an 1820's Flatter. :P -
Click here to read the ODBSA Newsletter about recent goings on and last month's blacksmithing event at Sunrise Forge in Rustburg, Virginia.
John Elliott was there with his truck full of tools from Blacksmith Supply. This last newsletter of 2010 has 9 pages of pictures, current news, and articles. -
Interesting blend of texturing and elements. You're right about it being unique. I like it.

I've heard tales of such abandoned piles of blacksmithing tools and anvils, but I doubted after all these years there could still be any "treasure" finds out there in old barns.
But evidently... it's twwuuu, it's twwuuu !!! -

That massive moustache in the middle is mightily marvelous

Looks like the festival demonstration was a big success! And ODBSA added six new members, too!
... from today's Current News
* It should have been against the LAW---- To have that much "FUN" as we all did at the Appomattox Railroad Festival EVENT this past weekend. David Hinshaw brought an extra forge station so we had four total, all of which were needed. We could have used one more Sat.
* This photo says so much! David Hinshaw's interaction amongst the public was amazing, especially with children. -
The Old Dominion Blacksmith Association will have at least 3 forge stations set up in Abbitt Park for both days of the Appomattox Railroad Festival. This is the 38th year of the festival that is expected to draw about 35,000 visitors over the two days. Over a dozen ODBSA members have signed up to take turns manning the forges to demonstrate their blacksmithing skills to the public. If you'll be at the festival or in the Central Virginia area, come on over and watch for a while.
For participating members, basic tools will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own if you like. If you are not currently an ODBSA member and have an interest in joining or learning about blacksmithing, we will have ODBSA brochures available at the festival with a membership application form inside. The weather looks to be perfect this weekend for getting outside, so come on down to Appomattox and join in the fun. -

Larry, Your timelapse video of forging the human face is absolutely remarkable. Wow!

Holy cow! How much electricity does your coil draw?
I don't think I've ever seen metal come up to temp so fast.
Forget about the cool press and dies, it's amazing just to watch the work piece go from cold to yellow in seconds!
It certainly is not your converted backyard barbeque grill forge.
Thanks for the Demo, Grant... and btw, I couldn't read your t-shirt. -
Very nice forge. Would love to see pics of the whole shop.
Does the forward slant of the exhaust opening help? Or have you found it to get in the way at all? -
Really nice work. Very creative. I'm sure he will love it.

By the way, does anybody know how to view this file on a Linux machine? It opens with openoffice by default. The pictures are visible, but much of the text is obscured behind white panels. Is there a better viewer available which is not too hard to install?

Biggest Anvil Collection in the country?
in Anvils, Swage Blocks, and Mandrels
Posted
Yes, thanks Frank. I had admired the photos of this collection when it was first posted almost 3 years ago. I had almost forgotten about it. (not really ;) ) I haven't been back to New Mexico since I lived there in the early eighties and may never get the chance. So I do appreciate seeing more of Mr. Moore's collection via you pics from your visit today. Thanks, again.
BTW, I still think this is a wonderful example of what can happen when very deep pockets and over-the-top OCD combine.
When I hit the lottery, I know right where to go. Back to NM !
