nice hooks john b i wish i could have made it to thame.

 john seems to be doing just fine in my opinion
I enjoyed the video John! I would suggest that you try working your drawknife bevel down though. I use mine that way at least 95 per cent of the time. It gives you much better control of the cut depth. -
james try making some yourself you can make them a perfect fit,and its good practice :)

 i always use glasses and earmuffs when grinding, but never a mask. dont think ive ever seen anyone wear one while grinding.i stupidly thought all the sparks are firing away from me and being metal should be heavy enough not to be airbourne for long.i did alot of grinding today and felt a bit dizzy when i went in the house, so i thought i would do some research and found this.i will most definately be wearing a mask from now on.
thank you IFI you have saved my life!

I seem to spend a lot of time making punches, drifts and chisels for various projects.I'm up to 19 now and i've only had my forge up and running 3 months.i was wondering how many you more experienced blacksmiths have accumilated over the years?

Hello
I got into smithing to make some wood lathe tools and axe heads, but it's become more of a hobby now. I made a forced air gas forge out of an old gas bottle and a hair dryer, got a small cheap anvil and two old leg vices from ebay and started to make some tools as they are so expensive. So far I have made 3 pairs of tongs, some punches and chisels and a very crude hammer head with an off centre hole... oh well its all practice.
I've also tried 3 or 4 knives out of old files and leaf spring, one snapped because it was too hard..... oops!!! I'll keep on trying and learning from my mistakes, and the good tips and info on 'i forge iron'
Thank you all for the information so far ! :)
I think I have finally found a big one.
