I have heard of this before but I have never had this to happen . The jaws of the vise usually make enough contact to ground the material . You must remeber that most of the current is spent (through resistance and heat generation )actually doing the work of welding , leaving you with only a little current to go back to the machine . If the pitts were being made, I believe you would need a microscope to see them .

Those connecting rods in the block of the motorcycle are very good forged steel usually , likely better than car connecting rods . Piston rings are high carbon steel . The crank is most likely forged steel . The frame could be used to build stuff , be it steel or aluminum . Hope that helps !

A friend of mine once took his chap stick and rubbed it on a cats butt . Then he talked his uncle into trying it and giving feedback about the chapstick for a school project . We've been laughing about that for nigh on 20 years now .

Old car painters used to use vinegar to etch the car before primer and paint . I have never tried this before, but I understand that this works wonders in adhereing the paint to the body .

Grocery stores have citric acid in the coffee supply section as well , and poultry farms use it , and poultry farm suppliers have it in 5 gal. buckets if you need more .
Its quite a bit cheaper at the supply store or from a farmer . ;)
