I took a weekend class up there last year its a nice place the food was good some of the people up there are a little to huggy artsy type but its defenetly a nice place and shop is nice to they have multiple power hammers gassers and coal forges. expect to be tierd by the end of the day and i recomend eating at all the meal times you will need the energy.

  2. Here is the list of tools we will need for the forge trailer. We may
    > have to have some take-backs in order to have sufficent tooling for
    > the Conference, but this is what we would like to have on the trailer permanently: Let Mike or Barry know what you are donating so that we don't have too many of each.

  3. yea thats the same guy that was trying to sell them some time last year. same wright up and every thing. He dosnt take being told what they are to well but iv ran into a few "rare ANTIQUE hard to find they dont make them any more dealers" with way over priced not so hard to find or not to hard to make items. if i got the money ill make a resonable offer that they will normaly get mad at me and turn it down then ill offer to make them for them at half the price there trying to sell them for. that ushualy makes them madder but what the hey id like to make a few dollers to.

  4. i would use my vice or make a jig to hold it in place while the tenons are smashed down. if he does not have accesss to a torch it will be slow going heat tenon clamp positon the plate and set the end of the tenon. i would make shure they all line up with the holes befor seting them. if he is worryd about maring the arches use acouple blocks of wood in the jaws of the vice. or he could forge the holding dogs as shown in the demo

  5. To me design is the hardes part. you have to start from an idea and put it to paper draw it and draw it agine till you get it looking some what to what you want. figure all your conecting points and how they will conect eather rivit, tenon, coler or weld be it forge or arc. then make test pice to see if its really what you want and if the idea is going to work. allot of times after making a test peice you will find that making it a diffrent way is allot easeyer than what you originaly had in mind. remember blacksmiths dont make mistakes we just change the design

  6. Befor i got my plasma cutter i got my compresor first i got a delta from sams club 80 gal 2 stage. it was the bigest at the best price when i got it. you will be better off with a bigger tank and 2 stage that way when the air preshur drops it kicks on and fills back up without you having to stop and wate on it. if you can afford it i would actualy recomend an ingersoll but i have no complants with my delta. also get a air cleaner water seperator not an inline oiler you want as clean of air going through your plasma cutter as possible.

  7. I am lucky in a way iv only got one nabor thats a complaner the other complaner dosnt complane any more. She has called the police multiple times on my nabor who has a machine shop in his back yard but never on me so fare. I figure my time is coming but i was here first and so was my shop.

  8. I am scrounging up the parts to build an air hammer and got a question about the through of the ram. when i build it how high should i set the ram in relationship to the dies meeting? and what is a good distance from top to bottom die when fully open? I am shure I will come up with more questions once i start building. I have got a good bit to start with now and want to at least start framing it up.

  9. i posted a pic of my anvil/tool/vice stand i made for doing demos. I made it when i was doing the anderson fair it was a 10 day thing so i took allot of tools with me. its a little heavey but not hard to move i made the handels removable and from an old tiller. just run it up on the traler and away i go. planing on building something simmler for a forge i just like puting things on wheels i guess.

  10. I have used a couple of electric blowers that i have riged up but use a hand crank now and perfer it. dont have to have wire any thing up and i have better control than with the electrics. iv got a champ 25 a mohawk (think 40) and a champion 400 i use the 25 all the time and the other 2 are spair.

  11. I live in upstate South Carolina. Been playing with fire for about 6 or 7 years been trying to get searious about it for last 3 years. Been Maried for 10 years got 3 kids. Hopfuly my shop will grow into more than a hobby and i will be able to do this full time.

  12. just got a 4ft peice of saw mill blade givin to me. hoping to use my nabors plasma cutter to chop it up. im planing on doing a little dimaskus with it but befor working it hot should i have to annul it first having not dealt with this stuff befor its like a really bit band saw blade.

  13. Iv been beating on metal for a while and have goten enterested in making knives. I was given a bundel of A2 rods about 3/8 i know i can make a number of small tools from it but i was thinking of trying to forge weld it into a knife billet just dont know if it would be a wast of time having never delt with it. My thought on the billet was to make a 4 by 4 billet of rods alternating a difrent type rod through out it so no A2 rods would be directly conected tack the ends and twist it like a large cable. If it can be done what would be recomended for my alternate rods. If it cant be done there all going to be destend to become small tools and such.
