I'm all for bringing the KBA back to live. Maybe we can round up some old members. 501c3 is huge ( having some expirence with getting one!) Firey, you shop may be a good place to start and then we can look at a meeting place. I have an idea and a location that I may want to throw at the group but it is a team effort. just getting it started back is the primary goal.

I will do some homework. I understand Wesley will be out of town for a couple of weeks and with marching band my weekends are full so when Wesley gets back, say early October, lets set a meeting place and work this out.

Does anyone know of an active blacksmith assoc. in Kentucky. I would perfer one in Central KY but any would be great. I have tried to contact both that can be found on the net and have had no respons.

Ok,
so my anvil is missing 2/3 of the face plate. it appears to be a Hay Bruden ( or how ever you spell it) what type of steel should i use to make the repair piece. Also, I have looked at the Gunther article and if i am welding to a cast steel base, is the hardend rod necessarry for the side attachment.

No i dont have all the parts. I didnt think i could bend them..... so back to E-bay they go.

Ok a couple of questions.

1) What type of steel should be used to replace the missing face piece.
2) what process should i use to join the faces and the tool steel to the base. I understand this was most likley forge welded at first but this does not seem practical now.

I need a part for my post drill ( the advancing mech.) since mine is broke. I have three that i got of E-bay but none fit (figures) i can make one of them work but it is cast iron. Can i heat the cast iron part and bend it without damaging it?

So the bride and I were spending time (and money) at the 127 yard sale and i ran across this anvil. It weighs about 200 LBS. I got it for $200. It rings well with only a couple of imprefections but I cant tell what type of anvil it might be. I initially thought the upper plate was added but looking at the Hardy hole it seems to be one piece.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok,
Saw this on the Woodwights shop a few seconds ago. A blacksmith here in KY was drawing out a tool using what appeared to be a 12 pound sledge hammar with a piviot through the bottom of the handle and a spring pole above it. It was foot operated. you stepped on the lower trip and used the force of your foot to bring the hammer down full arc and strike the metal mounted on an iron stand.

has anyone ever seen something like this? I would like to see some close up pictures.

I am starting a Blacksmithing program to teach metal working merit badge at our local BSA camp. With little to no money (Accept my own) i am trying to start the program and am planning to start with RR iron anvli's until we can buy better ones. I know they are light weight and need mass under them to be effective. Which material should i mount them on

1) Pine Log burried in the ground
2) Sono tube filled with concrete
3) another piece of rail or I-Beam
