I use a forced air forge and have great luck uses a lot less propane than a venturi and you can control how much or how little heat you need.
It was cheap to build also you dont have to figure out what jet size you need or anything. -
how about a horse shoe letter opener
-
I use lots of hay rake teeth for patchknives .
they are 1095 simple carbon, personally I use transmission fluid or the wifes used veggy oil.temperd back to a straw color on the edge they make tough little knives. just my 2 cents worth -
I have a forced air and a venturi the forced air burner is very simple to build andreaches welding heat easily

About 4 years ago my buddy brought a hunting knife to work for us too look at. I ask where did you get this having a great appreciation for knives, he said he made it. So I was off like making knives so good I then decided I wanted more ,blacksmithing you get to make everything not just knives.
So I started reading a lot goin to demos and Im hooked.
Learn something from everybody Im around NOW I have my wife hooked too
shes just making hooks and stuff for now till her hammer control gets better. -
when my wife texts me an hour before work is over and does not mention dinner but asks Are We Gonna Hammer something this evening.

I agree with everything said. My wife and I drive over 4 hours to go to the guild meetings
we were made welcome on our first trip and attend when we can. these are a great group of people. My wife even has shown interest in smithing just because of the environment at the demos she is learning and so am I. Many Thanks to Peyton and the Tanners for helping preserve this fine art and teaching others. Jae and Kim Mobley
only 2 days left cant wait!! -
cool hammer btw where did you get the steel??

Never tried it on fire brick, but after weldin in my forge it eats the lineing out so I patch the holes with satenite then ITC-100.
The ITC is a refractory it helps hold the heat in your forge works great.
Hope this helps. So yes you can put in on after the forge is used a while. -
