amazing work man, love how clean it all is, simple lines making strong statements, even more impressive that no powerhammer used.

Hey guys this was a little piece I made this last weekend, This is my first spoon and my first flamingo (it just kinda came to me as i was sitting looking at a piece of flat stock). I plan to put the features into the bird in the next two weeks, i have to make some chisels for it first. Let me know what you think, and any notes on spoon making are welcome as this was just off the top of my head and i used my Swage block spoon form for the shaping.

bmiller- you are right we skipped that step lol I remembered it but could not remember it exactly, and baddog (older guy with less tattoos) couldnt remember either so we figured we had it confused with another project thus left out. thanks for reminding me about it and where to put it, number 2 will have that for sure.
i'll be posting pics using it in the next few days and maybe pics of a second one as well, thanks for all the comments

I am going to be buying a new anvil in the very near future, I am looking at tfs anvils as they are right up the road a little ways to pick up. question is can anyone give me some thoughts on the future anvil 2, i need something pretty portable because i will be moving it at least 2 times a week in and out of a truck. any other opinions would be welcome on other anvil types and wieghts. I will be doing mostly decorative work no bigger than 1 inch most of the time and some tool making as well. want to get the most bang for my buck and still be able to move and travel with it..........
thanks

hey everyone i have a quick question for you all, I am looking at buying a new anvil, I need it to be mobile so i am thinking 120-150lbs as i will be transporting it often and moving it in and out of a garage. I would like to make this long term anvil so I dont have an issue paying for a great anvil, i've looked at everything from tfs and anvilbrand(the ductile crew of anvil) to nimba and some bigger models like rathole and ozark pattern. I am not afriad of a 200+ anvil but like i said want some semblance of mobility as i do not have a set shop location atm. so basically lookin for some advice and endorsements, and ideas for mobility if i go a bit bigger.
Hope you guys got your opinion caps on cuz i need it!!! -

Hi everyone first post I have made here, right now i am using a homemade coal forge, and have restored a champion no. 40 blower just recently. However I live a town and can only use my coal forge on weekends at a buddy's place in the country. I want to step up my learning curve by moving metal during the week as well using a gas forge. I do not have the free time atm to build one myself and keep swinging a hammer as well so I am going to purchase a premade forge. I was wondering if anyone uses a Valley Hot Box Quantum Forge??????? I have found info on most other brands but would like a little more knowledge on these. I am going to be doing mostly decorative work from small to hopefully gates and railings in the future, and i like the firebox size and the pass through. pieh says is uses about 1lb 1/2 a hour on fuel for forging temps and more for welding, i would love to see if any users can confirm this as well
thanks

i went to the local rail yard and ask if they had scrap i could take and the purpose for the scrap, they told me what scrap i could take from and that i could do so whenever i needed it for work i was doing......all that to say, sometimes if ya just ask the rail yard managers they will help you out, even more so if you bring them a trinket or two :)
