  1. Head out of the cities a little ways into farm country and you will find a lot more. Every farm has a scrap pile and most smaller towns have a scrap yard hidden somewhere. Worn out tools and farm implements make up a huge portion of the yard and are great for steel of all kinds. Some yards throw the old tools in with everything else but if you're lucky they separate them for you. Ask nicely and you'll find treasures everywhere.
  2. Sorry Rusty, I was a SGT in the Infantry, weapons are kinda my thing.
  3. Greetings from southern Minnesota! I began smithing in early 2000 with a brakedrum forge and a simple steel plate as an anvil. I've just recently finished a 4 year enlistment in the Army and am getting re-aquainted with fire and steel now that I have the time and space again. I had specialized in mostly ornamental pieces such as chandeliers and railings. Now I am working on spears, axes, and other wood working tools. My thanks go to everyone here for making my re-learning curve less painful than it would have otherwise been.
