  1. Thanks, i will have pic's up tomorrow night oh you should get some of them tines even if you don't make an anvil out of them you could use the steel for knives or something like that.
  2. Thanks, and as you guessed i welded on some feet tonight and fixed it too that wooden stand i made.I all so painted it black but not the surfaces that i will be working on :D
  3. Thanks, i read some were they are made from 5160. but i could be wrong.
  4. :D This is my new anvil i made the other day, it's made from 2 forklift forks cut up and welded together. The anvil weight is 133 lbs or 60 KG. here are some pic's of it. All comments are welcome.
  5. Thanks, Well i think i already know what that darker line is and i am not surprised that it's there, it's a failed weld. this will be ok because i am not going to use this knife because i am going to hang it on my wall. :)
  6. Thank you, yes iv heat treated it and all is good.
  7. Thanks, I forge out the shape of the blade then grand down the profile of the blade to exposes the layers.
  8. Well today i forge out a bigger blade, out of the bigger half of the billet i made.so iv one more knife to make out of the twisted piece of Damascus steel i have left. any way here are some pic's of my new knife i am making. All comment's are welcome.
  9. Thank you, i am very happy with the way it came out. This knife is going to be a gift to a friend.
  10. As most of you know iv bin making some Damascus steel well i forged out 1 half of the billet and twisted it and made a small blade from it. Today i etch the blade and this is how it tend out All comments are welcome.
  11. I have finished my first billet of Damascus steel, 5 folds 160 layers :D and like i said i was going to do i cut it into 2 bits. I also twisted one half and flattened it out, then cut it in 2 half's, so ill get 2 small knives out of the twisted piece of Damascus steel As for the half that i did not twist i will make one knife out of that i think i get a 6" blade out of it. Now for the pictures of the 2 pieces of steel iv got. This first pic is the twisted piece, The next one is the other half of the billet i did not twist, Now the next thing i would like to ask you all is what acid can i use to etch my blade's with ?
  12. Right i am on my 4th fold, 5th weld and all is working out very well I am going to do the 5th and final fold tonight as well and all so weld it up. so then i can cut it into 2 pieces and then twist one of them and leave the other one as it is, ready for forging into knives Oh i tested the weld's and they are all ok so far. It's not all that hard to do now i know what i was doing wrong the first time i give it a go, Iv learned from my mistakes I will have pic's up later of my finished billet. ;)
