  1. Last Monday I had a few hours off so decided to try something new. For me anyway. They worked out really well and I was really pleased with how they turned out. So were two others so the two I finished went as gifts.

Had a really good time making these. A challenge for my limited experience but great practice. Coated with bees wax I got from a friend that raises the little critters. Got some honey too!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! This was not my idea to make them from RR spikes. I saw it here on a previous post from another blacksmith. I have very few origonal ideas.

    <º((><

Mark I have always been lost when it comes to this cross. I don't know whether it's just brain flatulation or what. I have seen several diagrams of it being done, (never a vid or someone in person). And I just don't get it,,when I do I know I will feel sillier than I do now. After the second cut,,,the lights go out for me. It looks like a great project and I have always wanted ta do em.. tnx

  2. Forge looks awesome! Hows the scaling at welding heat? Also do you have any idea of its fuel consumption. Thanks for posting the video

At $250 it's a steal! I build my own forges and I estimate around $125 in materials alone plus considerable time. Next time a newbie starts a "First Propane Forge" thread, I am going to suggest he go this route. It's almost a no brainer.

Yeah the forge roar makes it hard to hear the voice. But hey, we are smiths. We are more interested in the sound of the forge than the commentary! :P

tnx maddog,, scaling is at almost none!!! and that is without choke plates,,after calculating my time and cost of materials, it was pretty much a no brainer to me also..mike did a really great job with the design. as for the fuel consumption, I weighed a new tank before firing it up, and have been documenting time, as soon as that tank runs out I will be able to answer that. I got this forge for forging damascus (pattern welded) billits. I have a feeling diamondback will have a hard time keeping these things in stock,,as for the noise,,that was at 9 psi for forge welding (prolly could be reduced to 7-8) I ran it makin a bbq fork the other night at 4 and it was going back up to forging temp so fast i was thinkin this thing is gonna work me ta death! :D Merry Christmas!

  3. Looks like it works well.
I could not hear what model it was, and could not recognize it as a Diamondback Forge.
    Is it a new model?

Yes it is a new model,,I shoulda muted sound and narrated over it,,I thoughtwith me holding the camera my voice would come through, It is the econo model 2 burner dennis has em on sale for $250, which is one heck of a bang for your buck imo. Merry christmas!

  4. I'm just making assumptions and offering a possible solution; Lisa is your daughter? Wife? No matter. If you don't depend on smithing as a living, but Lisa does, and you are still enjoying the craft as a hobby, why not just make the tools for Lisa while she continues to perform work that generates income. Seems like a win/win situation. :)
    Scott

Holy crap! that was such an obvious solution,,hahahaa reading through all these threads that never once came to mind! Sometimes when I just wanna step back from a project I am doing,,(either ta cool down) or just because I am bored with the monotany I will make a tool, or tools I have been needing,,then go back to the project with a fresh head.
  5. After A few months of research and hemming and hawing whether to build one myself, decided to go with Diamondback's product,,I got the 2 burner econo, which will suit me just fine for damascus,,should be here early to middle this week,,also a christmas present from the little woman :D,,bless her,,That being said it also gives me great satisfaction to know I am not buying this product from a "guy" just out ta make a buck,,It's his business,,his website,,and if he has a platform like that that is his, he can say what he likes (and i'm not just sayin that cause I agree with him)..by the way I completley agree with Ron Paul's quote, "truth is treason in an empire of lies". That pretty well sums it up

I have done a good bit of research and read a number of reviews on Diamondback's products as a whole. Overall every review and all the technical information as well as videos are stellar ratings and excellence. The explanation of the features for each forge on his webpage are extremely helpful and led me to do better research by giving me terms and concepts to learn more about as well as links to supporting information.

That said, I have no direct experience with his product(s). Regardless, his clear and factual replies here as well as the many good reviews have convinced me to spend my money with him. There is a sale at his webpage and this is a Christmas gift, so I'm winning 3 fold with this deal. However, it wasn't just the facts that sold me on his product. The attitude of the owner of Diamondback (loopy, yes?) is A+ in my opinion and the fact he is willing to put his reputation and business on the line to voice something he feels passionately about speaks VOLUMES about his courage and dedication to his morals and ideals. Companies and individuals who lack extreme dedication to something so central and core as ideals and morals cannot be expected to have extreme dedication to their work 100% of the time. This is not to say they cannot make outstanding products without such displays of their dedication, but I believe it to be good marketing to show you believe in something and commit to it.

Thank you for all of your helpful information on this thread. It has assured me that the product I am buying is made well and by a person I can respect. I hope you all find the same satisfaction with whatever products you do decide to buy.

Disagree, but don't knock a man's product because you don't agree with his politics. Doing it in such a manner as to appear innocent is just low. That's my own two nickels.

  6. Cool video, Braedon. Keep us posted on how it all turns out. I'd like to see more. :D

no problem curly,,it's the holiday time so I been makin more jewlery than other projects,,but the $ buys my coal so got no prob with it the bigger projects aren" due till spring so I got a lil cushion there. forge on man!!
  7. The first rose is very high quality for a frist rose,,you were open to advice and alternated layers for a more natural look,,you obviously have a love for learning, then implementing what you've learned to your craft. If you are doing something you truely love, and that gives you pleasure as well as creating beautiful art,,then don't be discouraged by those who "are against you" in your decisions. Those people will be the same ones that praise your skill in the future and say,,"I never doubted him from from the beginning" keep em coming. and don't lose the faith brother!
