it would'nt be striking two faces together if there is hot metal in between and the pitting comes from high heat when forging some steels old jack hammmer bits for instance

thankyou I built a kinyon style hammer after looking at the abana blue prints the simple air hammer web site was helpful in deciding which type to build.

new to posting but not to blacksmithing. just moved to South Dakota and I am looking for coal. does anyone have information on closest to souix falls area. also discussing power hammers (home built). air powered.
