ThomasPowers Posted December 23, 2020 Looks like a 2 burner forge with 5 burner ports on it? Quote Link to comment
Fuji’s forge Posted December 23, 2020 The shell is 28” long, torch ports are 4.5” spaced on center... Quote Link to comment
ThomasPowers Posted December 23, 2020 What is the volume of the inside? What type of burners are you using? Quote Link to comment
Fuji’s forge Posted December 23, 2020 Frosty T burners, shell has about 1800 cubic inches... 3/4” Frosty T burners Quote Link to comment
ThomasPowers Posted December 23, 2020 Shell doesn't matter it's the interior volume that counts! So what is the Cubic inside the lining? Quote Link to comment
Fuji’s forge Posted December 23, 2020 I built this one at work. At the time I was welding and had the chance to build a larger forge . I figured this design would give a larger heat zone for longer pointy things... At the moment I am setting up this guy Quote Link to comment
ThomasPowers Posted December 23, 2020 Of course you realize that heating up more than you can work hot in one go degrades the rest of the steel with decarburization, grain growth and scale losses---why they were able historically to do swords in forges with a hot spot of about 6" long. Only time a sword blade needs to all be hot is during heat treat. Building your forge for that is like buying a dump truck as your daily driver because a couple of times a year you buy a load of gravel... IIRC a T burner will heat about 350 Cubic inches so 2 would do a 600 cu inch forge with a bit of power left over. Quote Link to comment
Fuji’s forge Posted December 23, 2020 Thank you, I get that... My intention is to run shut off valves between each torch, running what I need for the stage I am at... Would that work? Quote Link to comment
Fuji’s forge Posted December 23, 2020 I had the opportunity to build all my “toys” in my gallery for free. Cost a little for material for the T burners is all. I was thinking to the future. Quote Link to comment
