Jim sharples
This is a power hammer , powered by 2 men ,Approx 1953 when I was 16. My elder brother & I had the experience of using A 2 man sledge hammer seem to remember it weighed 40. Odd pounds , used for breaking up very thick scrap cast iron into handleable lumps which could be put into a furnace. To melt for making new castings. These great big pieces were left on the ground all year. Until a heavy frost came, when the frosty day arrived. Our dad would say get out the dummy ( this was the nick name for this hammer) and attack the iron because in the frosty weather the iron woul turn brittle &crack easier, I see a photo of one on you tube today ,spose it’s redundant nowadays Jim
