Chromic Acid and Leather Dye for Curly maple

Featured Replies

I just ordered another batch of hawk handles and I orderd some Chromic trioxide Acid(from Dunlap wood crafts) based stain to try. Ive been using leather dye and Muriatic acid, but the muriactic is such a pain to work with. Anyone used the Chromic Acid based stuff before?
Also whats your favorite leather dye color for curly maple?

I have used the tri stain but it was called aquafortis. I used it to stain gun stocks for muzzleloaders. The aquafortis is a water base so you have to make sure you whisker the wood before you apply but it sure makes a beautiful stain.
