found this after some searching on google http://www.knivestown.com/ktown/blade_shapes.asp there is an example for each blade as well as a description of its use.

WOW! I remember back in the 90's when all these countries started banning guns, and people asked what's next banning of knifes and swords. Everyone just laughed. The Romans also banned swords, for the safety of their citizens of course. A cliché comes to mind but it fits so well so I must say it. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Wow I just realized this post that JPH is James P Hrisoulas. For Christmas I got just got "The Complete Bladesmith" and it is by far the best book that I have read on knives and swords. Thanks JPH for such a great book.

Looks like you live by me I live in Ephrata, but my family is from Pittsburgh so I make that miserable trip on I76 pretty often I'll have to check that place out one of my trips. -
As a new blacksmith myself this is the best resource I have found. Before I started I read many books and although they where very helpful in getting me started not one of them compared to the help and ideas I have got from this site. Sure every once in a while I read some pompous responses but on the internet that is to be expected. But in whole this site is great and I find myself coming here and reading and something new everyday.

I did not grow the beard to look the part the beard was there years before I decided to become a blacksmith. Just like I wore glasses way before I became a computer nerd.
