  1. I get my second Moderna shot tomorrow.  Healthcare worker.  But I take care of cardiac and vascular ultrasound for a large medical practice so not knowingly scanning anybody that is currently infectious.  Have scanned a few after they have recovered.  Legs for blood clots and some high school kids to clear their hearts for returning to sports.

  2. Thanks Pnut.  I don't think I'll get t o fire it up before Friday.  Possibly tomorrow if I get off early enough.  I have some tong blanks sitting at the post office - finally. Took 13 days to get from Ken's in Minnesota to my post office in Ohio.  Not Ken's fault - they had them out the next day.  So I might get those turned out tomorrow afternoon.

  3. My thoughts go out to your wife Fowllife and to your neighbor Nodebt.  I'm in south-central Ohio as well and familiar with most all the facilities around the area.  My wife woks office for a local surgeon.  We are "in the loop".  It's a difficult time for rural hospitals for sure.  I'm a cardiac, vascular and general sonographer and count my blessings that I'm "just" in an outpatient only setting.  I have a lot of friends in facilities though and I see posts on Facebook all the time about people just having a stack of pizzas delivered to the ER, ICU or you pick a department for the staff and they sure do appreciate it.  Have also seen stuff sent out from Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, etc.

  4. Hey good to know you a bit.  I'm really really new - not even double digit posts or replies yet.  Just wanted to say - thanks for your service.  The PTSD, I can relate for other reasons.  I'm a health care worker and have coded (you know CPR, etc.) probably nearly 1000 people in my 35 years.  Was particularly good at putting airways in.  I can see almost every single person's face in my memories.  Lot's of things trigger me.  My worst code was on my Dad - I was successful at his home.    His heart was just too shot to ultimately survive the night.  With that, any movie or TV program where a Dad falls usually sets me off like nothing else.  PTSD is no joke - as we all know.  I'm glad you are here - I've found it a great place to hang out and to learn - and just to make friends.  Looking forward to knowing you better.

  5. So I looked around a lot before making this and getting the frame done finally yesterday.  Frosty T burner was finished some time last week.  It's a start.  I did a JABOD too and really only fired it up one day.  It will also work fine, but I'm a work in progress for patience and knew I'd eventually get to gas.

  6. The story is that I was telling my good friend, Tom, of my desire to try something new and needed help finding a hunk of steel to hammer on.  I thought he might be able to help me or be able to pass on info to other friends as he works for a plastic injection molding company and has guys around that might know a lot more sources than I at this point. Then Tom says, "I'm positive there's an old anvil in my grand dad's old building.  Maybe we can take a look, let me talk to my dad about it."  Well, we headed out there and on the way his dad said he'd let me have it on a loan basis.  The building was a mess but we found it without too much trouble.  Here's some pics I got after knocking off quite a bit of rust.

There's a "12" on the front under he horn.  There are what look like logo marks on each side but they are too weak for me to tell, but maybe somebody can recognize shapes. I'm just really thankful to have something like this.

  7. Thank you Frosty.  I feel like I've learned a ton from you specifically already.  That little one is my first grandson.  He has a little brother now that is just a couple weeks old.  I'm sure they'll be swinging hammers in no time.   I'll post some more images to see if anybody can tell what the anvil is.

  8. Hello,

Been lurking around reading and reading and reading and...well anyway - thanks so much for all your posts and replies that I've been checking out.  I'm just starting and haven't hit a piece of metal yet!  I'm in the process of gathering supplies for a small propane forge fed by Frosty's design on the burner.  I was fortunate to "acquire" a really old and rather seasoned anvil that belonged to a friend's grandfather.  I'm going to post some pics in another thread to see if anybody can give some insight on manufacturer so I can let him know.  I don't really care too much - I'm curious, of course, but just tickled I have one to play with.
