By all reports it's not an enjoyable experience. I have heard it gets 0 stars on Yelp. 

But seriously I am glad nobody got hurt also, it was a serious situation. The tree was right at 2 foot in diameter, really dangerous getting it off the shop.  

It's been almost a year since I was able to get out to the forge, injuries and then had a tree fall on the forge... but finally got the fires stoked back up and here's my latest creation.

Just finished this one as a graduation present for my little sister.  80CRV2 for the steel. Wenge and bloodwood for the handle with copper fittings. I think I turned a corner on sheathes as well, at least this one looks a little better than the rest I have done. 

I agree with George on all points, I noticed is that their bevels don't seem to be as extreme as the one you showed. I would almost suspect they are doing a "blending" after they put in their primary bevels with the slack part of the grinder... I haven't tried that but I think it would work. Like George said, experiment around a bit... and let me know how it turns out, cause I see some of that style in my future projects...

Leatherwork is my bane, I am completely stalled trying to make a pair of sheathes. Feel like I can't start another build till I finish the sheathes, and since they aren't coming out right... well I have done nothing for a few weeks. killing me.

I made this as one of my first commission pieces. My friend and his wife both commissioned me to make Kukris for each other for a Christmas present to each other. The cool part was that neither of them knew that they other one had done it. and they commissioned the EXACT same blade. So they got a matching set of his and hers kukris  I was completely stressed out building them and loved every minute of it. They were super happy too. Blade is 80crv2 and the handle is ebony and rosewood with copper fittings. 

really? I hadn't heard that one yet. what kind of finish does that create? 
I am truly glad I picked up this craft, there seems so much more to learn or be discovered than any one lifetime could provide the time for. 

hmmm... yeah I would hate to see the start of a Starbuck blades trend...
Luckily I didn't invent it so none of you can blame me if it catches on. Lol 
I do like the way it comes out though, a dark brown that looks almost bronzish. I will probably use it again on other projects.

Thanks, glad to be here! I coffee etched it for about 2.5 hours. I am hoping it will help keep the blade a bit more corrosion resistant. 

So I have been reading posts and lurking on this site for over a year. This is my first post, but I have learned a lot from all of you. I finished my first kitchen knife this weekend, but it is my 30th knife total I think. Made of 5160 with micarta handle and copper pins.
