  1. Yeah. Took 3 butterflies to close it up. At a weird angle on the finger where it slides the whole slab of meat off the finger when I move my finger so I had to splint it too... got a couple ER dr friends that always tell me what to do.

  2. Trust me had plenty of stitches in my time. Pretty much all in my hands.  At this point they look like Frankenstein’s monsters hands.

The tang is actually about 3/8 or so tall. 1/8” pin should hold just fine and I use epoxy also. I’ll probably do a couple internal pins in the pommel to keep it from popping off

  3. Well the ******* thing bit me... it’s pointy that’s for sure. Came home with a nice new set of files and went to toss the bag on the workbench and forgot the knife was in the vise pointing out... looks like I played roulette and lost... probably use a few stitches but electrical tape works too.

So lesson learned. When not working on the knives take them out of the vise and leave on the table.

    Its turning out nice though.

  4. So I have forged out an identical pair of these which is a feat in itself for me since every single knife I have made has been completely different. Problem is I can’t decide where to go with them. I’m thinking bird and trout direction but something about the shape is throwing me off so I’m thinking of taking out a finger slot and then start the grind from there. That way one could choke up on the knife for precision work since the blade is about 4.5”. I have some moose antler laying around so I think I’ll use that for the guard and pommel and use Caribbean rosewood for the midsection with a stainless pin. I’m halfway onto the cleanup on it and trying to make a decision but stuck with knifer’s block...

  5. Ironically I forged this one out about a year or so ago. The blade is only about 2.5” and the handle is about equal. But surprisingly it’s one of the best skinning knives I own for white tail. I know it seems really small but I’ve actually skinned out and boned dozens of deer with it. I made the handle short and round so I could easily turn it around the hip knuckles etc. works great and it will be one I keep in my truck forever.

  6. Ok more just a test to try and figure out this picture posting thing but feel free to let me know what y’all think.

First one is I think my 8th or so attempt at forging. Second was about 12th and the third was about number 10. Bit out of order but I’m progressing with the finishes.

The last one is a pair of bird trout knives and a  spear point skinner I’m currently working on. Still debating on the handle materials but I’m thinking maybe a moose guard and a rosewood handle.

I’m hoping to get a nice belt grinder instead of the cheap delta 4/36”  that should help with a lot of the finish shaping issues I think

Let me know what y’all think and give me any suggestions. and hopefully I posted this time.

  7. Ok so I’m new here. Just trying to start getting feed back on some work since I’ve been a closet knife maker for a few years now and have a box full in the closet that have not seen the light of day. Started out with just a couple blanks that turned me towards forging since I couldn’t find anything I really liked shape wise.

Obviously im slightly internet unsavvy since I think I just dumped about 6-10 images somewhere on here and I don’t know where they went. Thought they were going to my account so I could post them but if anyone happens to find them feel free to blast away and let me know what you think. I’ve had about a dozen or so come out the gas forge and get hammered into sharp objects on the homemade anvil.

In the mean time time if someone can explain how to properly post a picture that may save me some embarrassment and y’all some headaches.
