  1. get the best finish (highest grit) you can, polish etc. but if its not "stainless" stock then expect some tarnish. i dont use oil or anyother chemicals cuz i like to be able to cut food.

  2. i got a source a local flee market , 16 inch by 1 3/4 at widest part by 5/16 thick, nickleson brand (i think) for 50 cents each. he's got hundreds and lots of other random stuff, i have a horseshoe rasp (also 50 cents) i cant wait to use... question, did you grind your teeth at all, because ive found cracks in some that i didnt grind fairly well?

  3. i would bet that knife would hold up ok but at that price people would just throw it out when it became dull and buy a new one. (probably hard to sharpen bc of steel used) we will drown in our own garbage one day unless we return to quality products made from quality material that lasts. im canadian and i dont think i shouldpay for chineese prosperity at the cost of our own. srry bout the rant..,.

  4. this was to be a present for my niece but i think ill make her a more practical piece like a little skinner not sure of the fate of this guy. also the original handle was to be butternut but when i was assembling the handle i split one of the slabs so i cleaned up the epoxy and found some douglas fir, it was meant to be cuz i love the stuff.

    11 1/2 inch (oal)
    7 1/2 inch blade
3/8 tapered towards blade to 1/8
    axe blade profile (convex/concave???)
    old nickleson file (steel)
    mild steel pins
    douglas fir handle
    10 w 30 quench, file tested
    tempered twice @ 380 for 45 mins
hand hammered, hand filed, hand sanded to 600 grit.
    spine is torch drawn.

i didnt even have to sharpen it after sanding its razer sharp.

  5. hello . i was just wondering what do i use as lubrication for wet/dry sand paper or emory cloth. i finished my first knife recently and was surprised at how fast the snadpaper became clogged. i use silicon carbide paper start at 60 or 80 and progress through to 400 (i just got some 800 i will try with next knife)i do all work by hand. so if anybody can tell me the best luberication and how much to use as well please and thank you. i started to look through here but my eyes hurt from staring at the monitor for last couple of hours.
