What I would do for a video making rebar tongs is label it as a way to practice before moving on to  making a good set. At the beginning I would state that rebar isn't optimal for tooling and can even be unsafe. Then I would inform the viewer that what I will be showing is a guide to the techniques used to make tongs and a good material to practice with. My intro would have a disclaimer stating that blacksmithing, metal working, and machining is dangerous and that proper PPE is vital to the art.

Best response to date I've gotten on this forum! Thank you for the sound advice! I think rebar isn't the best option but either is eating fast food but we all do it.... and most newbs will grab rebar if that makes since any eyes I will look into the weldable steel while at the box store in the mean time this week will be a hand crank grinder restoration!

pics removed just because they wasted space

You seem competent with tools and are probably better than i am at producing items.  However you should not be making any instructional videos until you can figure out and follow the basics of safety.  This is the second video i have seen from you where the lack of safety gear and/or the misuse of tools could have led to immediate serious injury.  Also the dangers of long term health affects from lack of ppe.

You need to realize people will see and duplicate these videos and the damage done to them is your fault.

Your responses are repetitive and generic have you watched the last video to make sure I had all proper ppe? Your advice on safety has been taken no need for you to mention it again

How about learn safety and follow basics of safety first.

You've already stated this and I've already acknowledged it so it's time for you to move on thanks we are looking for productive responses not repetitive ones that's have been addressed and acknowledged

Oh yeah... how about you have something of value to say that hasn't already been said at this point you are being that guy.... and nobody wants to be that guy.... I've already acknowledged the safety so get over yourself or move on to a different thread.... let me stop in and say what's already been said makes me feel good

  6. Okay... so what's everyone's 2 cents on a frosty video.... now before y'all get your feathers in a bunch I'm not talkimg safety and camera moves too much I'm just talking frosty tee.... I'll even compare it to what I've already built and we will see why either one is better as far as being able to tune and adjust the ease of the build

So let's try automotive coil springs. An alignment shop may even give them to you. They make exilent tongs. As do the square spring steel that truck mudflaps hang on

Charles the average guy isn't going to have a coil spring handy or stop by a box store and grab them.... these are Piddling projects not professional BlackSmithing project's..... you are over thinking this.... I am not discounting that a different material would not be a better option but it is not the option for my target audience! See I've been on this forum and I do appreciate the advice the criticism on my camera work or my lack of knowledge etc... Etc... what seems to be missed is people outside of here are enjoying the content they are subscribing & if with help from here we can take something simple like rebar tongs and make them better by your advice that's what I need and want.... because the fact is the common man wants rebar tongs they don't want to be told how stupid it is to make rebar tongs to use to hold their RR Spike knife.... see RR Spike knifes sell because it's what the common man wants not because it's a good knife RR Spike knifes are junk for knives we know this but I bet you can sell them faster than your 5160 Damascus knife....

Its all in what you want to do but do it for the quality technique or do it for the masses without the tools but just know what you are doing before you teach.

    Exactly,

And again I assure you like my other videos may not be the best way or only way or even safest way which I am more cautious about safety.... so let's see if I can say this in text that the pros will know I know what I am talking about..... see my videos show simplicity so that anyone can do it... here goes tongs ready..... half step same side as you.... 1/4 turn half step across anvil..... 1/4 turn half step across anvil.... BOOM Jaws, Boss, Reins

  9. I understand and again don't know that ever will I be an authority.... what I'm saying is rebar made tongs relates more to more people than me driving to the steel supply company and buying what yes would be a better grade steel this is simply put a video that says it can be done not that it's the only way or best way..... my videos are aimed at the common guy not the engineer who wants to over think everything.... look you could brush your teeth the same way for years and years with out any trouble and some body could slow you down and explain why your doing it wrong.... if at the end of the video the tongs pick something up guess what you just learned how I MADE A SET OF REBAR TONGS mind blowing I know

Btw the pic is from my first attempt I don't need to know to draw out the reigns blah blah blah

  10. I'm listening..... as far as for knife making that is definitely not happening not even going there with rebar.... and again it's going to be how to make tongs from rebar not why you should use something different..... this is for the everyday guy.... okay so he's going to the big box store and grabbing basic stuff.... look I appreciate the research remarks and suggestions but I honestly don't have a problem making tongs from rebar..... if I wanted tool grade material I'd go get me some S-7 or something it's a basic step by step on making a set of cheap functional tongs... Yes rebar is not consistent in quality or even metallurgical content but the common man doesn't care.... nor do I....

. Frankly I think he should be making how to videos about making how to videos. A LITTLE polish and they'd be excellent.

I'm not sure if I'm just being too humble but was that an actual compliment? Or deep sarcasm.....

Btw, as far as egos go..... frosty if you'd read you would see where I said the Anvil was free and already made so your suggestion would be considerably more work than my first option.... any who nothing wrong with realism and nothing wrong with saying yeah it will work but could definitely be better anywho y'all keep it coming cause I ain't stopping already told ya if an idea comes up that's from here y'all are in charge I'm just the joker in front of the camera y'all gotta make it look the way ya want I've tried and y'all cried about it lol thanks for the advice and help seriously & hope everyone had a HAPPY Thanksgiving
