not the normal looking Fisher I guess....

I had others say it looks like a Fisher, too.  I'm cleaning it up more and a wire brush and I'm starting to notice a number on the right front foot. Can't make it out yet, but it's maybe an '8'. 

Still hoping to see something in the stamped area on the front base. 

 

The inset on the foot with the name in it reminds me of a certain make.  Can you clean that up a bit to see if I'm right?

I was out of town until Sunday evening, and it's been a zoo since then.  I haven't had a chance to get out back to clean it up any.  Would you mind sharing what your guess is, however?

I'm out of town until Sunday. How should I clean up the face and rest of the anvil?

Actually my friend was getting it for me.  My first anvil and I'm very lucky and super excited that it cost me nothing!  Anyone willing to take a guess at it's worth?  Not that I really care because it has a decent ring to it and the hammer rebound seems good also.

It could possibly be something to do with the fact that I copied the images from Google Hangouts and then pasted them into the post.  Maybe the images only work if you are signed into Google when viewing the thread?  Anyway, now I know to upload versus just copy/paste.

That said, I got the anvil last night but by the time I got home it was too dark for pictures.  I'll take more later today and post.

Can you tell me anything about Samson anvils, or point me in a direction that I can research them (should this anvil be a Samson)?

Hi guys.. long time lurker here hoping someone can give some suggestions on what type of anvil this could be?

My friend has this anvil at his welding shop he works at.  He says he has never seen anyone use it.  I haven't seen it and he hasn't mentioned any marking on it, but here are a couple pics to show what it looks like:

Also, I should have more pics this evening when I see it in person... hopefully I'll be able notice if there are any markings on it then.

I see that the BGCM offers classes.  Is there anyone that knows when future classes in 2016 will be available to register for?

Thanks for the reply.  I'm in the DC area.  (I'll update my location in my profile).  That's one reason why I was checking this one out since it's close by and won't have to pay for freight.

Preface:  I am just starting out as a blacksmith, and I'm collecting tools needed to start the craft.  

I'm wondering if this anvil (on ebay link removed) looks to be in good shape, and is worth the price.  I know that Peter Wright anvils are very good quality, just wondering if a more experienced eye can tell me if this particular anvil is worth it?
