I recently got a lathe for christmas, but have never used one. Any input on learning the basics would be a great help. I have a general idea on most processes but dont want to mess anything up.

while returning from Savannah GA , I came across a road side yard sale, the fellow had mostly junk on a table and a large chunk of metal holding the awning down from blowing avay. Turns out it was ana anvil, about 90 pounds( Henry Wright). I picked it up for 80 bucks ! the trip couldn't have turned out any better, I was over there getting my Christmas present a 8x12 lathe from HF. Sweet christmas for me. Here are some picks of the lathe in my shop. and some of the anvil nailed to a stump. I never heard of henry wright , is he any relation to peter? Sorry my pics are too big .

I live in South Carolina and it get real hot , I wrap/roll six or seven ice cubes in a wet rag, like a ice sausage and place it around my neck, with a rubber band to hold it together at the two ends . It last about two hour until the ice needs to be replaced.

I made a small coal forge out of a sheet metal base with a mixture of cement and pearlite. 50/50 mix. It breaks down if it get wet often , but held up well and repairs were easy. The blast came from a old hair dryer and some pipe into the bottom. I made a grate out of some 1/2 " plate I had laying around that i drilled some holes into. .

Hello everyone , Im Scott and Im new to blacksmithing. Thought it would be a fun way to spend time in the backyard. I found a place to pick up a blower for the coal forge I made , it's called www.Surpluscenter.com they have a bunch of blowers and odds and ends. I found the pricing on E-Bay restrictive for a used blower and this place had stuff right in my budget . I dont work for them and have no attachment to the company.( thought other might want to know about it) Ill post some pictures as soon as I can . By for now
It followed me home
