Welcome to the forum, your gunna like it. I'm originally from the BIG D myself (Dallas) But I'm sorta stuck here in Canada at least for another month (he he he ). I came here (on this web site) to get some sound advice and I get it EVERYTIME I log on. There are nothin but GREAT folks here and YES, Your GUNNA LIKE IT HERE. WELCOME!
Stixman....I have relatives in the Metroplex and make some Cowboys games up there....enjoy visiting the area but always glad to get back to the sticks!
I agree about the sound advice and great people here! I am in awe of these folks. I looked at the pictures of Glenn's shop....looked more like a factory to me! lol
I'm going to be looking for a lot of that advice in certain areas....I'm just a hobbyist and starting out small but this sure looks like a good resource. -
What part of New Mexico do you visit? We have our youngest son and his wife and our oldest son and GRANDson living in Albq. NM. A good 800 miles from here! BOO HISS! The SWABA group out there are a bunch of real nice folks if you are needing a blacksmith fix while out there. I've attended a meeting with them and demoed at the NM State Fair with them on 2 occasions. Check them out, fun bunch. (SWABA= SouthWest Artist Blacksmith Association)
Thomas.....my wife's sis and b-i-l have a place near Ruidoso. Actually 6 miles from Capitan going towards Ruidoso. We helped them build the place...an ongoing project the last eight years. They finally moved from Ft. Stockton, Tx back in Sept. and are there permanantly. We spend a lot of time there....we were there for a month during Sept. then the whole month of Nov. (love that deer hunting) We love that area....so much to do. We've been to Albuquerque a few times but not in the last year. I'll check out SWABA! thx -

Howdy from East TEXAS!! and welcome to IFI!
ALWAYS good to have a TEXAN coming aboard. Just where in Central Texas are you? I grew up in Evant and Goldthwaite mostly, moved from there back in '77. You ever get this far east give me a call, I'll get a fire going...that is if it ain't already! Once again welcome.
Thomas, I'm on Lake LBJ, near Marble Falls and 45 miles NW of Austin. We've been here since '73. My wife and I are originally west Texans....I'm from San Angelo, she from Ft. Stockton. We raised three kids here and they are all over in the bright lights of Austin now, we remain here and don't plan on going anywhere. We spend a lot of time in New Mexico, don't go east much but I'll keep that in mind! -
Wow! Great info! Keep it coming!
Glenn....your "shop" is awesome. If those walls could talk!
I was trying to figure the height of my stand. I ran across this info at
Setting up Shop ....does this look like the right way of figuring height (for those of us that have to consider sore backs)? -
I have some 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron and I'm wanting to build a sturdy anvil stand for a new 112 lb. anvil I'm getting (I want to see Santa coming down the chimney with this sucker!).
I'm looking for tips, plans, etc. from experienced anvil users. I'm very new at this and all help is appreciated. -
New here, new to metalworking. Looks like you have a good forum here and a good resource for a newbie like me. Looking forward to getting to know y'all. (Y'all is Texan for you all )
Mig wire w/o gas?
in Welding/Fab General Discussion

This is a very good question and exactly what I was wondering when I was new to Mig welding. I found once I got past some terminology issues, I had it whooped. Also, I got some great information on this question from the Lincoln folks.... MIG vs. Flux-Cored: Which Welding Process Is Right for You? | Lincoln Electric
