more beautiful work - i love them, particularly the second one which looks more like a mad max prehistoric skull to me than a mozzie... very tribal as well.. they have very beautiful lines, i guess you draw beautifully too? you could sell great tattoo designs! keep em coming i reckon theyre incredible.

I should be working on a commission for a client in Washington, but I can't get motivated to do it. Creatures are more fun, and they actually pay better! :)

If I saw shapes like your work in my dreams I'd go totally insane. I love it, it's such a wonderful blend of seductive curves and pleasing shapes in goose bump scary poses.

The highlight of the trip was seeing Horta's house/atelier in Bruxelles and Guimard's stuff (had already seen it, but it was still awesome) in Paris. It's been hard being back in the land of Wal-Marts and Applebee's! Luckilly I have plenty of work to keep me distracted...

Just finished a bunch of display items for a NYC gallery's show next month in the Netherlands. I had less than 2 months to do everything (not all pictured here) and after several 70 hour weeks I am ready to rest! There are a pair of the cabinets as well as another shelf and a pedestal for a large At Nouveau pot he will be displaying.

Now I get to relax a bit and get ready to go install all this stuff in three weeks!

Sure! Be sure to check out his stuff! It's pretty creepy by most people's standards but his sense of line is truly awe-inspiring.

He actually started his artistic career doing architectural design, including iron railings and such.

HR Giger, (pronounced Geeger) Swiss surrealist and creator of the Alien creature from the movie series. He's definitely a huge influence, though I think a lot of the similarities in our work come from our mutual love/obsession with all things Art Nouveau.

Just finished up a table for a client in NYC. I agonized over a lot of the design elements and in doing so generated several unused parts that will work great for my next project: a display stuff for a clients gallery/show booth. Good thing, all the work has to be done by mid February in order to ship to Europe for a show he's doing in March!

I guess I'm most profoundly influenced by nature. Artist-wise I'm pretty obsessed with all things Art Nouveau, Hector Guimard and Victor Horta above all. I really admire HR Giger's work and of course Albert Paley's early forge-based work.

As far as the blacksmithing itself, it's pretty basic stuff. The gate I attached has a lot of pass-throughs and collaring, but for the most part my work is just a lot of tapers, some upsets and a few twists and textures. My main focus is on line and composition, forged steel really lends itself to this end. I work out of a small shop, nothing too stellar tool-wise. I rarely work anything over 1" square so my 50" Meyer Bros. hammer does fine, not that I don't have fantasies about a bigger pneumatic hammer!

I generally work off a loose sketch and improvise a lot of the work as the pieces progress. This can be problematic as "sketching" in steel is different than on paper, but it always leads to happy accidents and ideas I just can't can generate in 2D. Mostly I try to have fun and do some justice to this craft we all love so much. :)
