I keep a 2"x6"x1/4" piece of plate on my stand that I used as a punching block. On really cold days I throw that in the forge as soon as I light it and once it is hot I just leave it on my anvil face. By the time I get everything else set up it has heated the anvil face enough to help keep smaller pieces from cooling too quickly.

This is my first post in the iForge forums so I thought that this would be a good place to start. I started smithing in 2001, but have not spent as much time in the forge as I would like the last couple years. I am hoping that I will find some good ideas here.
How do your store your drifts and files?

I scored an old metal test tube rack at an iron in the hat. I wired it to the side of my tool rack and it is perfect for storing things like punches and pencils. When I travel I store my punches in an empty Crystal Light container. They come in two sizes and have nice snap on lids.
