  1. It's. 4" round bar, as far as grade I have no clue looks like fine grain and very shiny at the break. I happen to work at a scrap yard and only noticed this because a piece came in broken. I believe they are some sort of tie bolts from a farm and they are about 15' or 20' long and the the diameter is rough didn't actually measure. It.

  2. Just got this anvil, and I love it!! The rebound is incredible the face is reasonably flat and I couldn't beat the price! The only marking I can see( haven't wire brushed it yet) is on the foot under the horn and it is 174806. I'm guessing serial number?? It weighs 128# measures 24" long, 10.5 high and 4" across the face. Was wondering if anyone might have an idea who the maker might be and the age? Thank you all in advance!

Oh yea and a B1 or 81 just under the face.

  3. This is the first knife I have forged. I have done some with the stock removal method in the distant past. I was very pleased with the way this one came out, it was forged out of an old file(file teeth still visible.near spine). Now I have a couple friends that want one but I'm not sure I can duplicate the quality of this one LOL.

  4. I got excited at first because the only price I could find was for a new plate and as stated above that one was $1300, and knowing I couldn't afford the stakes I thought I may be able to trade for a swage block. Wich I could put to use! But since I probably can't swing a trade I may just hold onto it. I will however check into some of the suggestions you folks provided! I really appreciate all your very knowledgeable information! Thank you very much!

  5. Wondering if any body had any idea of this anvils possible maker and age? I'm thinking this is different than most because it has a little hump on either side at the base almost like two extra legs. The measurements of the face are apx. 5"x11.5 the horn is 5.5" stands about 10" high and weighs 147 pounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
