  1. couple of pics of finished install, and pannel after powdercoat. I did a reno in this space, made bulkhead and moved walls, made back bar cabinets.
There is an eight foot screen for the projector on other end of room. Wish this was my house! ;)

  2. I made the table to match a bulkhead in a games room, this table is the same size and profile as the bulkhead.
I am putting beveled clear glass for the top.
cabinets and renos is how I finance my hobby of blacksmithing(now maybe a new business) :)
    Thanks for the comments

  3. I just mig weld the back of my wall hangings. I turn the welder up high and give small but deep penatrating weld.
I would collar the touching points, but I thought it would take away from the lines on these two projects.
I have some others that I weld and collar.
    Thanks for looking, and writing::D

  4. Hi Folks,
Just a comment on anvil ring, I have one that is really pearcing in pitch. I was told to put magnets on the side of it and it will take the high pitch out of it.
Well it really works. I used six ceramic magnets from Princess Auto about 1.5" x 2.5".
    Try it it helps.

  5. I have a friend that works for the railway, he wants me to make a knife out of some metal he has picked up from work.
I know the properties of RR spikes, but this is springs off of couplers, and 1 1/2" pins that keep cars together.
I am color blind so spark test does not work real well for me.
Any suggestions as to the quality of these parts?
Any particular parts to look out for?
I can see the spring making some nice tooling like punches and small drifts,
would like others to share there wisdom.

    Thanks.

  6. I have taken a few courses with Robb at Thak. I agree he is a great guy, but his tool prices are a bit high if you compare them to others on the net.
However, If you buy out of the States, pay for shipping, exchange, duty, and anything else enyone can think of to add on to your bill you will soon see why Robbs price is what it is. He has already paid these fees to get the items,
and has to turn some profit to stay in business.
I have been looking for two years for "cheaper" tool suppliers in Ontario.
I have come to the conclusion that if you can make it your self do it, if you can not make it yourself research the item BUT be sure to compare the quality of the item and weigh it against the amount of times you are going to use it.
Some items that do not get much use or strain can be found cheap.
I even try to adapt tools from other trades to do jobs.
In the end if you are not going to the States yourself to get tools, and you can not make it, buy from a reputable smith and help support the trade.

    Thanks for reading.

  7. I install replacement windows, Last fall I replaced a bunch of basement windows in a church. They had bars on all the windows. I took all of them home and checked the type of steel with a spark test and cut and break test.
I was quite happy to find I have 130 pc's of 5/8" round by 40" wrought iron....
The church was 108 years old.

  8. I only blacksmith for a hobby, I am self employed in Carpentry.
When I get time to do a project I need the materials on site.
I made a rack for long lengths of steel, I am still finishing the ends of the shop, hope to put in some kind of vertical storage there.

    Tim.
