Here are a few pics of a Hay-Budden I picked up for 200.00. I was happy to find it every one wants top dollar for anvils around me.

Hi wondering if any one can share their knowledge with me. A farrier gave me a propane forge, it looks like it was designed for a blower. Can I use this without a blower? It has a small forging area about 4inch wide by 11 inch long and two inch high. The forge has two burners.

Here are some pics of forge. Now that I look at it closer I just don't know why the middle pipe is there, there is no access to the inside of the forge. Anyway any thoughts on the pics are welcome. I will have to get a new regulator the one in the picture is broken.

Thanks CurlyGeorge it does make sense to me now. In the directions I was looking at it was unclear to me that you made the separate splits from opposite ends.

I was just looking at written directions for forging a cross and they seemed confusing. Does any one know of a site that gives a video of the process?

Does anyone know of a web site I can go to age the serial number of my Hay-Budden. The serial number is 0969 if it means anything to anyone here.

Yup found it on Graig's list. The seller knew what it was worth (selling for around 400.00 on e-bay)but was willing to let it go for 200.00. I felt 200.00 was a great price since I have not been able to find one this size for uner 400.00 in a few years of looking. A farrier friend of mine gave me a small gas forge and I bought a pair of tongs the other day, Next project build a stand then on to making some tongs and hardy tools. For stock I have a few five gallon buckets of files hammers and leaf springs I have been picking up at garage sales. Also it has antique value I think Hay Budden stopped making anvils in 1925.

Hi. just wanted to shout out that after looking a long time I finally found an anvil. A 123 LB Hay Budden in pretty nice shape. I am excited to get a area ready for trying it out.

Thanks for the info. I have just looked at them today 10/12/07. If anyone is still looking I'm live in southeast Michigan. Still looking, though may have a lead on a hunk of railroad tie

Where is the best place to buy an anvil. I'm just looking for something not to expensive. I have a gas forge and want to just tinker around with making some knives with old files, cold chisels, and band saw blades. I thought I might get by with using a chunk of railroad tie for an anvil but have not been able to get a chunk. Any suggestions?
