  1. Hey all,

This Saturday is the Rudolph Country Christmas. I will be the blacksmith demonstrating at the event. I'm supposed to make things to sell and I've procrastinated enough already. I have like five things made up and I can't think of anything else. I need ideas for small things that can be made relatively quickly and that are pretty to look at/functional. I've got bottle openers and coasters. I'm also going to be forging during the entire event and a couple two hour projects would be useful. The event is being documented by the Travel Channel and will be aired on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mailledemon.

  2. Hey all, I'm going to be smithing at the Rudolph Country Christmas this Saturday and I need an idea for something that's small and looks good. The town board wants me to sell items hot off the forge and I'm having a brain fart as to what I should make. If anyone is in the area and has no weekend plans, you should come out to Rudolph for all the festivities this Saturday.

  3. The forge heats up too quickly if you just throw the tile in there. if you make a little kiln out of firebrick with slots in the floor, you could set that on the forge and fire the tiles. It'll take a couple hours to fire the tiles so if you want to put some steel under the kiln to work you can. I use one of these occasionally for some wheel pots i make.

I used to do some pottery.

  4. I had a slight interest in Smithing when I was around twelve, but I never acted on that interest. Sure, I heated up rebar and hit it with a rock a couple of times, but I never counted that as smithing. Then, one summer at Akela's world, I met someone who went by the name of "Chainmail". He was starting smithing as a hobby and I thought it was pretty cool. I went home and made a tiny little brake rotor forge and had a three foot section of rail stood on end for an anvil. Since then, I've upgraded to having three functional forges, One Sodofers anvil, a striker I made, and I still have the piece of rail in a bucket of dirt; dirt makes a pretty quiet anvil base. The man known as "Chainmail" still lurks this site. He goes by "Maillemaker"  on IFI.

  5. I have an anvil with a "C" inscribed in an upside down triangle on one side, and an "M" inscribed in the same upside down triangle on the other side. Does anybody know what maker this is? It looks cast, with a steel faceplate. I can't figure it out. I don't have pictures at the moment, but they can be uploaded tonight after I get home.
