  1. Welcome aboard Numa, glad to have ya! How's Dirk? (Sorry, I can't resist a straight line) Well, not sorry really.B)

Make the Timberline event if you can, that's the kind of event that make me wish I lived closer. <sigh> I'm also glad to hear your kids are getting involved, there's nothing as good as working with your parents, it builds all kinds of good things.

What kind of stuff have you made so far? What kind of forge are you using? Tools? Etc.? Pics, post pics, we love pics.

I have a card reader plugged into my comp and it'll take my camera card, phone card, MP3 card, whatever fits and the reader is just another drive on my comp so all I have to do is open it and look. Resizing is easy, just do a "Save as" and size it to something in the under 100kb range. I make folders as per subject and save pics as seems reasonable at the time. AS suggested, have the kids set you up with something even dear old Dad can use.;)

    Frosty the Lucky.

hey frosty.i seem to make a hell of a lot of post hooks, but i realy enjoy making tools of all sorts.and few blades here and there.some other things.but when i started my forge was such a small homemade job, that i could not weld any thing biger than 1/2 inch or so.so i drove over to john day and spent $350 on a nice big antique with a clinker breaker and everything.now all that i weld or forge seems golden.im just waiting for the other shoe to drop and screw up something royal.now check this out.17years ago i got in to a fight with neo-nazis and came out of it dead.besides a sevear brain injurie my bodie got messed up pretty bad.after all this time,i have sevear cronic pain and am on disabilaty.(i was a logger before).with all the pain you would think i couldnt do the blacksmithing, but it helps with the pain.my doctor said that wile the pain centers are in the back of the brain, the creative centers are in the front and actualy cancel out the pain.it seams to work to some extent,so im thrilled.hopefully that will translate to less meds sooner or later.

  2. Howdy from East TEXAS!! and welcome to IFI! Check out this site; http://blacksmith.org/forums/content/ it is the site for the NorthWest Blacksmith Assoc., Great bunch of folks up there and some of the countries best smiths! They are having a big conference in the Mt. Hood area, I think in Sept., but check the site to confirm dates. You would do no better than to get to that one. They will even have items of interest for the family to do if they are not interested in beatin' on hot iron. Once again, welcome. BTW, to get the best help for ANYTHING having to do with 'High-Tech' stuff; cell phones, iPods, computers, etc, etc, then you need to make friends with just about ANY 13yr old! ;) Old geezers like me are kinda stuck and of absolutely no help in that area... :(

howdy yourself mr.dean.yes i know about n.w.b.a.and the con.is in august at timberline lodge on the mountain itself.and yea,i've got four kids, ages 18,16 and 12yo.twins of wich three are boys and one of the twins is a girl.and yes they are all better than i at tec stuff. the kids like hot iron so i try to start them out on nails(drawing out, upseting and cutting on the hardy).my 16 yo. decided to make a knife as his first project.well, surprisingly it came out fine, the boy actualy listend to my advice for the most part.now hes got a verry nice skinner and im jelous.oh well.
