What kind of welder is ok quality for around $500.00 I plan to weld light material 1/4 inch or less. I know how to stick weld and gas weld. I have never used a mig welder or tig welder. It will only get used on weekends and for home projects.

I'm trying to build a small gas forge. I read a few designs on the Internet so I went out a got a 13-gallon air compressor tank it is 24" long and 12" diameter I cut one end off already. My question is how long should I make the forge. I plan to but a 2" or 3" of insulation in the forge. Any help or recommendations are welcome.

I'm new to the forum and want to make my own knives for a hobby. I have wood working equipment but no metal working equipment in my shop. I would like to know the basic equipment I will need to make forged knives. I'm reading books about blacksmithing from my local library. In addition, where do you find metal to make knives is there a cheep source like automotive junk yards?

I'm new to this forum and would like to learn how to forge knives and other tools. I enjoy cooking and would like to make my own knives. I also want to build a nice cheap forge while I learn the process of heating and forming metal.

I don't plan on making money this is just for fun.
