rasp is folded in half. I forge the shape I want on the shank then open the bands up to perpendicular to the shank and weld the seam with a wire feed. I grind thi inside smooth so it will not damage your boots. I determine if I want solid or hanger buttons then form the bands around a jig I made. Hope this answers your question.
