The spring was quit alot of work to make, I had it hardened at the spring makers this week, they were very intrested when I turnd up with it in my hand, 

 

I think I will just leave the empty space in the cylinder empty, lead is worth alot of money and I carn't buy anything to do with ammo as i don't have the paper work

You can buy lead shot from Reloaders Supplies, SAI or other suppliers. As it is not loaded ammunition, you don't need a licence. Melted down wheel weights would be cheaper.

My Hattersly and Davidson doesn't have the flywheel like a LG - it is part of the driven pulley.
I was thinking of making an adapter for a scooter disk brake and disk, to be mounted on the far end of the hammer shaft. It hasn't got to the top of the list yet - anyone done something similar?

I got an anvil (150kg Brooks), a vice and a bench shear for a birthday and Christmas combined when I was around 15 from my parents - all used of course, but in good condition. Dad took a trailer away on a work trip to bring them back from 5 hours south of home, when a farrier replied to an ad in the local paper for blacksmithing gear
. They were (and still are) very understanding of teenage boys with strange hobbies - I guess it kept me out of trouble and was cheap at the price! Still got them all (and they have some friends). Presents like that last a lifetime
