  1. This is my first finished knife. Had to scrap more than one blade before getting to this point. Sort of learned, how to move metal with a hammer and how to bezel it out. Now, I need to learn how to avoid so many hammer marks. 1095 drill rod and the guard from a scrapped blade of 1095. Walnut handle, with a short lag bolt in the butt.
Please critique, and suggestions are rather welcomed.

  2. Is a #70 Fisher anvil, circa 1880's a good anvil? And if it is, what would be a reasonable price?
All the info, I amm getting from this from is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Dave

PS Looking at the pix, under the horn and across the bottom it says FISHER, with a number 7 right above it.

  3. Have been lurking and reading posts, I think I know what spark testing is, but could someone elaborate for me.
All I have heard is that the smaller the spark the more carbon. Is this true? And what exactly does this tell you?
    Thanks, Dave

  4. I wonder if, that is the Tom, I heard about, that lives in Rogers. I work out of Springdale, and all over the area, for Beaver Lake Concrete. Have also heard about a blacksmithing club from Fayetteville. They were set up at the Tired Iron show near Gentry, but I was chairman of our clubs' fall rock swap, and couldn't get over to it.

  5. Literally a newbie to red hot steel. I have a small gas forge, various pieces of steel, but need to get an anvil. Have beat on some railroad spikes and other scrap.
Am mostly interested in making my own knives, and then using semi precious stone for the scales. Am mostly interested in lapidary, but blacksmithing is a definitely teasing subject.
