  1. Need your help.

This is my son's first hammer and we are new to this.
I just picked up a LG hammer yesterday.
The guy i got it from didn't know if it is a 25lb or a 50lb. LG.
    It was his dad.

All i know is this thing is heavy.
It took 3 guys to just lay the top half on a roller that was at the end of my trailer.
Then we put some come along, then lift the bottom and one use the come along to pull it on to the trailer.
    It is like 6' tall.
the # on the back is
    N0953
    4-95

any info would help my son and i out.

    Thanks
    Oliver

When you posted, there was not that much info on it 'cause i hit some botton that posted it before i could write anything so i had to go back and edit to get the post in. So it's all good.

I know i will have more ? to ask all of you.

As most of you guys and gals here grew up in the times that you respect your elders, say please and thank you, help someone out the best way you can and a mans handshake ment something to the person. I thought that was all lost until i (My SON) found the Blacksmithing family ( ALL OF YOU GUYS AND GALS).

I am so lucky to be able to show my son and learn with him this craft, knowing that if i need help you all will be glad to help us. I have talked to some of you on the phone but have never seen any of you guys and gals, But i do think of you all as our friends. In this time and age we all need friends.

    To all our friends
    Thank You.

To the guy who does not want to be name (you know who you are Glenn). LOL.

Thank you for all your help, you advise and trying to teach me over the phone some things to show my son on the anvil.

You are right about trying to keep one step or one project ahead of him.
Man that is hard to do when i'm trying to learn how to forge my self.

I will try to get back with you and see if you can tell me how to get 4 tone in a triangle bell.I still can't figure it out.

To the bottom of my heart Thank you.
Thank you for giving a Father and Mother the chance to be able to do the one thing my son wanted to learn and to be able to spend every chance we have with him doing it.

Oh you remember when i told you he now sleeps with his hammer under his pillow.
You should have seen his face when he saw his Swage Block,
Ya i told him no way your mom would have a fit.
She would make use sleep in the garage with it.LOL

    Thank you my friend.

  4. Thanks Paul42

I will try to find some new brick.
I didn't know if the brick is the same as fireplace brick or if it was something else.Diamondbackiron calls it (Dense Refractory Bricks). Is that just a fancy name for fireplace brick. I talk to my local brick yard and they do not know what a Refractory brick is, all they can tell me is (we have fire place brick 2 size a thick one and a thin one.LOL

I too love my forges.I have the 1 Burner Knifemaker,2 Burner Metalsmith and the 3 Burner Metalsmith. They all came with a little cooker gauge. So after i asked some of the guys here on I Forge Iron i replace all of my gauge to an all gas (Acetylene/Propane) regulators with a larger (T greade) hose. So each forge has a 100lb propane tank then new regulator 15' of T grade hose to the idle valve then 5' to the valve on the forge. All i know now is if i set the PSI. to the same setting as my old cooker gauge it gets hotter. Like i said before with the 1 burner 13 psi. close one end with bricks and just have one end open, I start to melt rail spike in a few minutes. My 2 and 3 burner if i set the old cooker gauge at 11 psi. the rail spikes will get orange glow now with the new all gas (Acetylene/Propane) regulators with larger T grade hose set at 11 psi. the rail spikes gets yellow glow.

    Thanks

  5. I am new to blacksmithing just to let you all know.

I had my single burner Diamondbackiron forge on and the gas set on 13psi.
I put a RR spike in and look away for a few minute , next thing i know it was melting the RR spike.

I can't get the melted metal off the dense refractory brick floor in my forge.
Shoud i replace the refractory brick floor of the forge or is it ok to use still with the melted metal in it?

    Thanks

  6. Thanks Dave.

I looked at the post. but they talk about using Oxy/propane for cutting.

My regulators are ones for all gas so i can use it for propane and my hose are Grade T so thats ok too.
But this is my first gas forges.
Just didn't know if i can use the regulator and hose that i have as un upgrade from what came with my forge.

    Thanks

  7. Hi everyone.
    I'm new to the forum.
I hope everyone had a great holiday.

Over the holiday i got a 2 Burner Metalsmith Diamondback Ironworks forge that i have now.
Also i order a 1 Burner Knifemaker and 3 Burner Metalsmith Diamondback forge that i am hoping will come this week.

What comes with this forge is just a regular regulator.
I just happen to have some extra Acetylene regulators, can i use them for this forge?

And also use quick disconect ?
Will this set up restrict any flow?
What is the longest gas line most of you thick is the best to use from the propane bottle to the forge?

    Thanks
