Foundryman
When you pick up heavily discounted Olive wood chopping boards in the sales to cut up and make knife handles from! Lots of good handle stock for cheaper than I can buy raw timber, yes please.

Mark Ling
or how about this...Your room has more scrap than your scrap pile. Littleblacksmith
ThomasPowers
Or: your bedroom *is* your scrap pile! (I had a student that was in college and he kept all his scrap under his dorm room bed....He had removed the inset desk too and replaced it with a work bench with a postvise on it. He had trouble keeping roommates as I recall...graduated with a degree in Metallurgy)
Buzzkill
If you're using the restroom and it occurs to you that the vacuum breaker on the urinal has a shape that might be good for a NA burner.
Frosty
Noticed that did you? I asked around once and discovered they don't seem to wear out so no joy dumpster diving and replacements aren't common or inexpensive. <sigh> Frosty The Lucky. Buzzkill
There were a few places I could find just that part and they were running around $25 give or take a little. If I had unlimited time and money I'd have to try to make one work just on principle.
Frosty
Hmmm, maybe I should look again, I haven't in a long time. It's a much better throat profile than plumbing joints. Frosty The Lucky.

KLO
I don't know but I think i'm addicted to metalwork in general; 1. I use wd-40 as deodorant . 2.i used 60 gigabytes of internet usage browsing these forums. 3. I spent 3 days straight forging and making my forge work for me. 4. I have a collection of hammers and tools to rival my mothers sewing collection. 5. I don't care what the weather is, I'm forging today. mcostello
We took a small railroad ride with an old timey coal fired engine. Everyone else sat in an enclosed dining car. I sat right behind the engine and enjoyed the aroma. Conductor thought I was nuts.
ThomasPowers
When I lived in the inner city of Columbus; I had a retired neighbor that loved it when I fired up my forge. She had grown up in Pittsburgh PA with a coal house furnace and the "smell" reminded her of her childhood.
