jniolon
Good morning, the name is John and I'm an old time lurker but first time poster. I'm looking for some information on an old vice I picked up and what better place to find vice info than a blacksmith/metalworking site ?? I have a Prentiss 8" 'Bull dog" vice. It's stamped Prentiss Vice Co. New York New York # 56 on the body and I'd like to get some history on it. Not much on the net other than a little company history... I'd like to find out approx age of the vice and value. I've blasted it taking off at least 4 coats of paint and have applied a coat of rustoleum hammered finish to it. The threads are coated with anti-seize and I'm about ready to install her on my outside metal workbench... Anybody educate me on this old beauty ??? thanks John Niolon
David Einhorn
It classifies as a machinist's vise and not a "blacksmith's Vise". The only value is as a used modern machinist vise.
